Standard mashed potato recipe, you know, peel and chop those bad boys into quarters and then put in a pot of salted water, let them boil until nice and soft.

I took a sauce pan and threw in some fresh garlic all chopped up and sauteed it a bit before adding pure amish roll butter and milk. Let that melt down nice, stir a bit, then pour into the taters while I was mashing them in the drained pot.

Made a homemade gravy from frying up a few pieces of bacon and then adding flour and milk to the grease to top the potatoes with. Little dash of salt and pepper and I swear they were so good I could have died happy right there.

cheers

Popular here, for those that are from other regions, we take a fully dressed baked potato, and pile a big scoop of chopped barbecue on it.

Mashed potato wedges:

Boil up fingerling or baby red potatoes in salted water til fully cooked through

Drain and place on greased roasting pan or use nonstick foil. Spaced out an inch or so

Using the bottom of a mug, smash each potato into a flattened disk

drizzle with melted butter

Top with salt, pepper and choice of toppings:

Cheddar cheese, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, crumbled bacon, chives, Hungarian paprika,

Bake/roast in 425 oven for 15-20mins until crispy and cheese melted

That sounds awesome. I love to put garlic in my potatoes, but that bacon gravy sounds as good as icing on cake. Yum!

Oh it was.

It was just the right amount of milky sweet but had that bacon sear sort of after taste and just absolutely decadent with those potatoes!

I like to substitute different meats that you might not normally see at your traditional Texas bbq. Sliced lamb is delicious and so is a really fine prime rib cut up in chunks.

Meat and potatoes are where its at.

Mashed Potatoes that will make you hurt yourself (eating so much)...

Boiled peeled red potatoes. Mashed with lots of real pure salted butter, organic milk or better yet half and half cream.....with lots of garlic powder, salt, freshly ground cracked black pepper............and ta da......... Philadelphia Cream Cheese..

Now your white gravy sounds good but I prefer brown gravy.......especially made from either pork, turkey or beef. ...plus bacon drippings. Talk about calories....oh lordy!!! This will really put the pounds on you.

Hand mash first then finish up with an electric mixer to get that smooth creamy texture. The secret is to not have the mashed potatoes either too thick nor too thin....but just the right consistency so they swallow easy and don't get stuck in your throat needing a sip of water to flush them on down.

The type of potatoes you use does make a big difference. Basic potatoes like Russets are kinda plain after you have ever used Yukon Gold or Red Potatoes for mashed potatoes.
