No surprise there.
During "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland the Irish in the U S were doing the same thing. I was sitting in an Irish tavern in NYC back in the mid 70s when a guy walks in with a jar asking for "donations"...I watched as almost everyone there threw a few bucks in and my buddy told me why.
