Windows Security 101

Step 1 - your PC is wide open..
if someone has your IP they can read your hard drives...

go to control panel / network & sharing center / change adapter settings
right click on your lan / wireless card and click properties
remove the check mark on "client for microsoft networks" and "file and printer sharing"
click okay


Step 2 - kill the updates....

right click my computer / left click manage
click Services and Applications... then services...
Find "Windows update"... right click and hit properties
Set "startup type" to disabled
hit "stop" to stop the service
then apply and okay....

scroll back up and find "Backround Intelligence Transfer Service" (BITS)
and do the same as you did with "windows update" to kill it...

If you don't shut off BITS.... MS can turn your updates back on !!!
