These look exactly like a banana only bigger. The more bruised they are the sweeter they are. The green ones are only for making plantain chips, the yellow ones are for frying (if you dont like them sweet), but, if you do like them sweet, then get them brown... as in all bruised up. They are supposed to be like that !

Yay I can mix some chef boyardee or mac n chesse with white rice and it taste so good.

There is an Italian recipe called stuffed shells. I bet you could make a beans and rice blend and make them into ravioli.

I've never had any kids or adults at the retreat center not like this recipe. Plus they eat spinach.

Lots of folks freeze spinach. You thaw that it and press it gently and incorporate that into the cheese mixture.

So similarly, you could make a vegetarian ravioli.

I've stored considerable freeze-dried water because it takes up so little space, and rehydrates easily. Great stuff!

Found great bags at my discount grocery of cornmeal baking mix, which includes cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Might include flour as well - don't recall.

I think I can get beans down easier via cornbread, and this mix, bought two bags, seems like a great way to do it!

The bags are in the freezer now for three days or more, prior to being wrapped in plastic and tucked away for future reference.

Any form of grain will combine with legumes to make a complete protein, so this will work well and perhaps encourage my taste buds a bit. I know many people like rice very much, and so prefer the combination of beans and rice. I don't care that much for rice - never have.

Whatever we have, when SHTF, we will be so glad for it, no matter how much we disliked it beforehand - to have good, nutritious food is going to make the world of difference to us, and we are likely to come out of it with very well-adjusted taste buds!

Tell me, preparers, have you had to stock something you are not fond of, in order to assure something to eat in future? If so, what is it, and how do you plan to adapt to it?

If you have eggs you can fry some green onions, onions and parsley in olive oil (or any kind of oil, even butter) and then add the egg (1, 2 or 3), then mix the rice and beans in it and voilá very nice mix of rice beans and eggs.

With a banana on the side of the plate and a perfect meal!

And garlic of course!

Whatever you want to mix in it is good!

Use your chef skills.

stick the whole banana in the freezer. I have kept frozen bananas for many years. it is the best method for freezing as far as I am concerned and can stick them in before over ripe and they still have the flavor of not being so ripe ..

I just bought a bunch of bananas today and never do get all of them before a good share go south. At my discount grocery, they come in bunches and are not to be separated, so you can only choose by the desired ripeness of the bunch.

I will freeze whole before they quite go south, on your good advice, rewind!

Banana bread has been tickling around my forehead so it must be time. I make it with some lemon flavoring and people just go wild for it. The recipe I use comes out a little like lemon pound cake with bananas. Delicious! Want to make a few loaves and freeze them, if I can make freezer room. LOL

Garlic is always good! Might even be good in chocolate cake!

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but bean & rice soup is pretty tasty!

Now if you cook a beef roast covered...you can save the dripping & fat in a ziplock bag & stuff it in the freezer...that is gonna make one helluva pot of beef broth (just add water).

Then, just before it's done, add rice & smushed up beans (precooked)...it'll make the soup more hearty and be tasty at the same time

Delicious idea! But I like to make gravy out of the yummy drippings to go over real mashed taters with the roast. What to do? What to do? A lovely dilemma!

I don't call bruises on bananas rather I call them SUGAR SPOTS.

LAUNDRY SUGGESTION, use a CLEAN PLUNGER TO get clothes clean and then rinse if doing by hand.

Salt pork

I was going thru my stash & found a big bag of pinto beans.

Then I found a can of Bushes bold & spicy (which is made with pinto beans).

So I started cogitating...I could cook a pound of pintos, add the can of Bushes and 2 cans of hormel chili with no beans...then throw in some ketchup, onion powder and chili powder.

It would be a chili that's about 70% beans...but it would still taste good.

I bought a big canister of chix bouillion

Plain butter and salt.

Spaghetti Sauce.

Chili Sauce.

Sloppy Joe Sauce.

Taco Sauce.

Salsa.

Alfredo Sauce.

Fry cabbage with cooked rice and eggs.

Any canned soup poured over the top of the rice or beans.

Milk, cooked rice, suger.

Hunger makes beans and rice taste good, problem solved.

Mix the soy sauce with white rice. Its not bad.

I pulled out a can of refried beans and looked at the ingredients...

Pinto beans, water, and salt.

Well hell...you can do anything with refried beans...just smash them pintos after they're cooked.

Top them with any or all of these things...

Picante sauce, tobasco, avacados, guac, tomatoes, cheese, chopped onion, sour cream, sliced black olives...you name it.

I find the threat of starvation makes anything taste good.

If your rice and beans isn't looking tasty you ain't hungry enough.
