All nine people onboard a skydiving airplane in Hawaii were killed when it crashed on Oahu’s North Shore shortly after taking off on Friday evening. Hawaii’s Department of Transportation said there were no apparent survivors on the King Air twin-engine plane that went down near Dillingham Airfield. Three of the victims were customers and six were employees of the Oahu Parachute Center taking off for a “sunset tandem” flight, according to Hawaii News Now. [ link to thehill.com (secure)] |

G forces may have been very strong if plane was out of control. Prop failure, control lock left on, engine failure if so sometimes the other engine will take you right to the crashsite. |

If a failure caused the plane to go in a dive, the jumpers probably couldn't reach the door or was tangled up with each other.......as a former parachutist sometimes the scariest part was just reaching jump altitude in a rickety plane or helo..... |

Physics, gravity and g-forces play a role, as well as confused orientation, especially with a novice tandem jump. |

The first five minutes after takeoff, during the climb out, is always dangerous. If an engine fails, the other is at full power throwing the plane into a spin. At low altitude 5 seconds later you're eating turf.
It takes time and a little altitude to use a parachute.
