Obviously contrails don't do that. Only chemtrails with dispersants achieve that much mass so quickly.

I see this almost every day in North Carolina and it's disgusting. Wish there was something we could do to stop it.

Winds aloft can vary greatly in velocity, from little or nothing to in excess of 100 mph or more.. The spread out trail may have been made on the same airway and at the same altitude as the faint second contail but may well have traveled as much as 20-30 miles or more in the 20 minutes between observations and naturally increased in width.

What many people refer to as chemtrails are nothing more that contrails which spread out under the proper atmospheric conditions. If you choose to research this on your own, please be sure to consult reputable websites with decent scientific credentials. There is much junk science and fear mongering out there and it's easy to get lost in websites run by poorly informed but well intentioned individuals and organizations.

Explain why contrail in 70s' and 80s faded quickly then? Either atmospheric conditions are different now or the modern trails are filled with different chemical vapor.

An excellent point. I certainly do not recall contrails that continually turn into clouds back in the 1980s. It's been seemingly rare to have completely blue skies for last couple of decades.

I'm 74 years old. I was in my 30s and 40s in the 1970s and 80s...and I can tell you with certainty the contrails of those eras spread out just as they do today under the same atmospheric conditions.

The same circumstances produced lingering contrails as far back as WWII, 1939-45, if you're inclined to do some image or video (film) searches with your preferred search engine.

There are currents and pockets of air at different temperatures in the atmosphere.

They are chemtrailing over me here in Texas right now, the chemtrail planes travel at least twice the speed of commercial planes & at a much higher altitude. I was having coffee 30 minutes ago and watched the chemtrail planes as well as a few commercial planes, quite a difference.

Just get a high precision polarization state detector. Uv passing through aluminum has a much different polarization than just going through water vapor. Our optics Professor let us mess around with the labs one day, and all I can say for sure is that is not transmitting through pure water vapor/low concentrated byproducts. I like how peeps are like but I seeeee them! And convince themselves of the truth that way. Use science to your advantage, it's hard to dispute findings that support canonical physics properties

The Lecroy wavesurfer is a high precision oscilloscope capable of converting data from a photodetector into a 2D topographical slice if you chose to do so. A rough, dim outline of clouds is visible in this manner, and it looks much like a child's drawing. Lines deemed contrails would leave an even fainter signal, since it's just an artificial thin cloud. Anything else that's up there will come back as a much stronger signal in the polarization state you are looking for, and on a heavy day, the graph looks like a bunch of dense lines. Like I said, all I know for sure is that the uv is not transmitting through water vapor, and the data indicates some other substance is present in the transmitting medium. Isolating a specific frequency, in tandem with correct polarization targeting, one can simulate a spectrometer by isolating the suspected signal, and reverse engineering what a readout should look like for a given molecule. It's the long way of going about determining atmospheric particulate content, but it's the cheapest/easiest means for the average citizen
