Quoting: snark The hearing is looking at how thousands of people were infected with hepatitis C and HIV from contaminated blood they were given in the 1970s and 80s. One man said he was devastated when he was told he had only a year to live after being diagnosed with HIV. Another said he was so sick that plans started to be made for his funeral. Inquiry chairman Sir Brian Langstaff praised the bravery of those giving evidence. He warned that the accounts being put forward were "harrowing", "moving" and "chilling". [link to www.bbc.com (secure)] Worse than horrific. These innocent people, thinking they were being treated for their illness, and used so badly, really just used as if they are inanimate objects. I wonder if the people who participated in this atrocity, including the ones in the US that concocted the products, are heeding what these men are saying - are actually seeing and hearing the results of their ugly work. God bless and help those still alive - give them something wonderful for however long they have left to live, to make up for all they have suffered and lost. I went to an ordinary secondary school in a well heeled Home Counties area. The religious education teacher used to get us to push our desks to the walls and sit in a circle, so he could sit next to 12 year old girls, and put his hands up their skirts. Everyone knew what was going on, staff and pupils. The girls were ambivalent, liking the attention, while complaining about his hands. Little has changed since the 1970's, except girls are far more sexualised. As for our Public School system (our fee paying private school) the stories I've heard - FIRST HAND are unbelievable, especially the fagging system. Abuse in a national pass-time. |
