Dear Brothers,

would believe that such a noble thing could be in animal or vegetable
matter? I wouldn't have believed it myself, but I discovered in nature that it was the case.
For if the Farmer doesn't Fertilize his
fields well, he will not bring forth many Fruits. But what is the reason For this?
It is For no other reason then that the Fruits which
he plants need a Salt , and no common Salt either, but a purified Salt which
have been putrefied twice, once inside the human being or other animal,
and once in the air of similar place. The longer the dung lies and
decays, the better the Farmer likes it. For he can do more with this
dung than with dung which is not decayed. The reason for this is that
it becomes richer in Salt through putrefaction. So, my dear brothers,
you can see that the true Menstruum is nothing other than a putrefied Salt.



For Salt is the most Fixed thing which
can be Found. This is why, after everything has been burned, decayed
and destroyed, a Salt can still be found in it, This Salt is the Finest
and oldest thing on earth. But there are many Salts, is one good as
the other? No., some have vegetable natures, others mineral natures
but once they have been burned, dissolved and coagulated so that they
lose the Sulfur in their essences, they are all the same.
You should understand this about the Fixed Salts.
But you should also know what volatile salts are, which we need ad lapidem.
These Salts exist and Float about everywhere.
They are nothing, invisible and incomprehensible, not sweet, not sour, not bitter. Whenever can they be found, if you can not see or touch or perceive them? They can be easily found everywhere, in every water, there is a Salt in every water, but it is not easily perceived. But if it is boiled and putrefied, then you will find a Salt And this is the volatile, invisible Salt which is only made visible through our art. All philosophers write about it and say our
materia is invisible and imperceivable, it is nothing, not vegetable
or mineral or metal, There is no salt, but through our art it is made
into a Salt.

And this Salt contains everything I have said.
