We've fallen a long way.

We've literally papered over our societal deterioration with debt. New debt is new money to spend today, which means you can blow fresh dough to avoid the consequences of past bad decisions.

Of course, disconnecting bad consequences with the bad decision that created them removes the incentive to make the right decision. You can just keep on making more and more bad decisions, until eventually the debt levee breaks and then you just hope that there is enough of a society left when you come out the other side to try to rebuild your values.

That so brings back memories...what a nice group of kids I grew up with. I got a scholarship thanks to our nuns and went to school out east, lived with my sister and her husband out there.
We were all brought up in large, strong families, divorce was rare, money scarce. But community college was affordable from your wages (with a second job) or little scholar ship. We went to church on Sundays. We made do with stuff, weren't wasteful.
We were post WWII and didnt ever want any more wars, Peace corp joiners, geared toward keeping America great.
We took care of our parents.
Those were good days.

This is pretty much true.

They’d first stabilized, then raised, IQ across all social and racial lines. We really were headed toward an average IQ in this nation of about 120, maybe in two more generations.

Stopped in its tracks by the nwo.

I think we are down to about 98 as a country, mid to even lower 90s in some states.

Today's high school students are drooling babies in comparison. These kids are mature, thoughtful, well spoken, neatly dressed and responsible. At 18.
We were considered adults at 18 then. We were expected to act the part, get jobs, stop living off momma and have a plan for the future.
And all of us could read and write.
My older sister babysat a family of 6 children at the age of 13 herself, and no one batted an eye.

This short video illustrates our country's failure vis a vis the education of children, the assimilation of black people and the women's movement.

The real "waste" is in compulsory k-9. This is why we have a dead society.

Half the stuff you learn in college you could probably start on around 14.

Half of a kids day is spent being babysat during ridiculous art and music classes, gym, recess, movie watching and class parties at school. That time could be spent learning basic daily skills.

The state wants your kid 9-5. That's why they pulled women out of the households by destroying the economy.

Right you are, Ted!
In 1958 we had sound money. You could put money in a pickle jar and it maintained its value regardless how long it was kept. We had families that wouldn't accept poor performance in school work. Everyone had to work, no kid was handed life on a silver platter.
We had clear cut roles to play in life. Women were honored to be homemakers, men were proud to have a lowly factory job, because there was dignity in all honest work.
Women could work, but they were taught they would have to forestall marrying and having a family if they did, since their role as a mother/homemaker would badly suffer.
Men honored women by treating them respectfully on dates. Her father would beat you like a dog if she told him you took liberties, and other girls would shun you for dates.
Kids all looked pretty much like their dads since cheating was frowned upon by men, society and the women themselves.

I remember when birth control pills came on the scene. Women would use them (mostly for financial reasons) but were ashamed to go into the drugstore and pick them up.

It was a traditional society with rules that seem quaint to us today, but it worked.

Blacks tended to live in their own section of town, but were welcome to shop or go to the movies anywhere.
Whites visited the black side to enjoy the barbecue restaurants, shrimp and seafood, or to hear the bands in the bars over there.
Separate, but equal. It worked. Therefore it had to be destroyed.

What I didn't like was a push for an education you didn't want and the assumption that raising children well was a waste. That farming was a waste. Seemed to me the stupid people were the onse wanting to go to college and putting down people not interested in practical application of daily life.

If we had to describe a black person, we used the term 'colored'. A colored lady, or a colored man.
They got rid of that, too, then went through about five different names, all of which compelled by media.
Now here we are with Af-Ri-Can A-Mer-I-Can.
7 freaking syllables to replace 'colored', or even better, 'black'.

I had 5 brothers and sisters. The oldest got married at 19, next at 20, then a sister at 17, a brother at 18, me at 19 and babysis at 20.
We all left home before that. It was a sign of laziness or shiftlessness to sit home at 20.
