One of the things I like about GLP is its push for the personal accountability of an individuals actions and how this leads to better freedoms for us all, but the vaccine debate has made me wonder about how this works out in the end. If a parent chooses to purposely reject a vaccine for a personal (personal in this case being by choice ) reason and they (or their child gets sick.....) are we still supposed to pay for their care? If we fear the cost associated with transsexuals in the military , shouldn’t we fear the same thing from this more costly group and its effect on the general public? And what if a kid gets the measles (that’s fine and all) but then infects a cluster of people at an old age home and actualy gets people killed? I agree in allowing people to make their own choices, but as no man is an island we have to think about what possible freedoms might be lost in exchange for one given... the moment insurance companies are able to deny you coverage for something you can bet that they will, how much do you think health care would be for a known unvaxanated kid, insurance company’s are going to have a field day if we don’t figure out these problems before they get the chance. I wasn’t saying a fool, she was acting like a tool, warning her in the beginning was fine, saying what she sad at the end was unneccicary and she was certainly not as heart broken as the mother. What’s more I think the mother understood things on her own in the end. I am saying spend your energy where it will help and think it through. It didn’t really matter what she intended it’s what she did , there were better ways to say and do things than she did, so while her actions were very much foolhardy in presentation, they were needlessly cruel. My only real evidence here, since this is all based on a completely anticdotal story is this.... did it help? Did her final thoughtless sarcastic statement help anyone, or did it end in her being abandoned by her friend for 8 years with her friend learning nothing. there are a million better ways to do And say what she did at the end of their relationship.
