Simply retreat and counter strike when a knife comes out. First smash the hand holding the knife then take out his head. Or knock him clean out with your first blow. Use the sock's elasticity and the weight of the batteries or balls to give you an amazingly powerful and concentrated blow. Done properly it can take a man clean off his feet and probably be fatal.
