I had a bunch of bees come down my chimney, and I transported them by putting my hand next to them and letting them climb on, and then I took them outside. Probably about 25-30 bees total - several trips.

So he doesn't want to put the effort into actual farming because farming bee hard, so he has us pay for him to get a big fat tax write-off instead.

I would've loved to have kept bees, and raised fruit and veg.

But everyone has to run drugs, so no paw paw trees and bee hives. Bees are so much nicer than wasps.

I actually had a hand in developing that. Not a huge role - I was pretty low level at the time, but the company I worked for was first to transform corn (introduce new genetic material into corn).

The problem with the biotech industry is that there is little concern or investigation as to the effects of what they are doing. Farming industry wanted corn that was resistant to pests (and disease) so the focus is on producing that product. Almost no thought is given to side effects.

What is even worse - and this is a 'scary worst' kind of scenario - is that during one of the presentations about BT resistant corn, a 'positive control' slide was displayed that showed a cyanide toxin with a 99+% fatality rate was shown versus a BT strain (which was desired) and a negative control that had no toxicity.

This slide showed the results of the negative control sample (no toxins) being ravaged by pests, the BT strain showing good resistance to pests and the 'absolute death cyanide' positive control showing 99+% death rate of insects.

The PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY chimed in with a question. 'Why don't we use the positive control sample and place IT into corn?'.

We were all STUNNED! We all knew the obvious response - which was not so delicately answered - 'Well, because that would kill anything that ate the corn - including people'.

The PRESIDENT of the company actually suggested putting a TOXIN FATAL TO HUMANS into corn!

Granted, he wasn't exactly a scientific scholar - but COME ON! That was the most fucking IGNORANT thing I had ever heard!

Full disclosure, it was the President of DeKalb Genetics, back in the early 90s. Tom something.... FUCKING MORON! I worked for a small biotech company that got bought by DeKalb - so I don't remember his last name ATM. I just remember the absolute stupidest and scariest question ever asked - and it highlights the total ignorance of the industry as a whole IMO.

I left the Ag research industry and went into medical device R&D shortly after, then got disillusioned out of that industry as well.
