i was in urumqi about 10 years ago and there were warnings to stay away from crowded areas. Some of the uigar's there would go into a crowd and poke people with syrenges. I don't know what was in it, but I went straight to the bus station and off to Kashgar (although that place was probably just as bad). I flew back to Beijing, screw it.
