Because of this, Cruithne and Earth appear to "follow" each other in their paths around the Sun. This is why Cruithne is sometimes called "Earth's second moon". Although Cruithne's orbit is not thought to be stable over the long term, calculations by Wiegert and Innanen showed that it has probably been synchronized with Earth's orbit for a long time. After many years, Earth will have fallen so far behind that Cruithne will then actually be "catching up" on Earth from "behind". When it eventually does catch up, Cruithne will make a series of annual close approaches to Earth and gravitationally exchange orbital energy with Earth; this will alter Cruithne's orbit by a little over half a million kilometres—while Earth's orbit is altered by about 1.3 centimetres (0.51 in)—so that its period of revolution around the Sun will then become slightly more than a year. (OP) Senior Forum Moderator 08/16/2022 06:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nearly five years have passed since Hurricane Harvey roared into the Texas coast as a Category 4 and then turned into a catastrophic flooding disaster for Houston and other parts of the state's coastline. But what's sometimes forgotten is that it was Harvey's second chapter that caused this multi-billion-dollar disaster. Harvey's remnant spin and energy were continuously followed for multiple days. The remnants moved westward through the Caribbean, then across Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula before emerging in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. Harvey regenerated in the western Gulf of Mexico four days after its first demise on Aug. 23. It rapidly intensified prior to slamming into the Texas coast just north of Corpus Christi as a Category 4 hurricane the night of Aug. 25, then hovered for days across southeastern Texas and led to the heaviest and most widespread tropical cyclone rain event on record in U.S. history. Much of the damage was caused by flooding since Harvey's slow crawl produced rainfall totals that would crush the all-time rain records from any U.S. tropical cyclone since 1950. It wasn't just one station – seven different locations shattered that 52-inch previous record. Two of these locations measured an incredible 60 inches of rain. The hurricane was also linked to 89 deaths. Harvey became one of four 2017 Atlantic hurricane names retired from future use by a World Meteorological Organization committee.
