Appropriately for the time of year, January's full moon is also known as the Ice Moon. In Europe, it might be called "the moon after Yule," a reference to the pre-Christian festival of Yule, which originated with Germanic peoples as early as the 5th century. In the Chinese lunar calendar, January's full moon will usher in the final weeks of the Year of the Ox; the next New Moon on Feb. 1 will mark the beginning of the Year of the Tiger. (OP) Senior Forum Moderator 01/17/2022 06:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Datura Stramonium This one produces an intense trip, also highly poisonous ;) https://imgur.com/sOqZgF2 Datura is a genus of nine species of poisonous, vespertine-flowering plants belonging to the nightshade family Solanaceae. They are commonly known as thornapples or jimsonweeds, but are also known as devil's trumpets (not to be confused with angel's trumpets, which are placed in the closely related genus Brugmansia). Other English common names include moonflower, devil's weed, and hell's bells. All species of Datura are poisonous and potentially psychoactive, especially their seeds and flowers, which can cause respiratory depression, arrhythmias, fever, delirium, hallucinations, anticholinergic syndrome, psychosis, and even death if taken internally. Due to their effects and symptoms, they have occasionally been used not only as poisons, but also as hallucinogens by various groups throughout history. Traditionally, psychoactive administration of Datura species has often been associated with witchcraft and sorcery or similar practices in many cultures, including the Western world. Certain common Datura species have also been used ritualistically as entheogens by some Native American groups. Nonpsychoactive use of the plant is usually done for medicinal purposes, and the alkaloids present in plants of the Datura genus have long been considered traditional medicines in both the New and Old Worlds due to the presence of the alkaloids scopolamine and atropine, which are also produced by Old World plants such as Hyoscyamus niger, Atropa belladonna, and Mandragora officinarum. "thorn-apple" "white thorn-apple" Dhatura is offered to Shiva in Hinduism. "the plant with the nodding head" (in reference to the nodding seed capsules of Datura species belonging to section Dutra of the genus). In LATIN “daturus” means “to give” Datura belongs to the classic "witches' weeds", along with deadly nightshade, henbane, and mandrake. All parts of the plants are toxic, and the genus has a long history of use for causing delirious states and death. It was well known as an essential ingredient of magical ointments, potions, and witches' brews. In India, D. metel has long been regarded as a poison and aphrodisiac, having been used in Ayurveda as a medicine since ancient times. It features in rituals and prayers to Shiva and also in Ganesh Chaturthi, a festival devoted to the deity Ganesha. [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] |
