I always thought it was so hypocritical when as a large Catholic family we went out to dinner for crab and lobster on Fridays during Lent because we couldn't eat meat. Somehow that was considered fasting. How crazy is that?

Lent is over on Easter

Giving up a vice is positive and good for the soul no matter what you believe, no need to be Catholic.

Still thinking about what to give up, all for the idea.

I'm pretty sure it's not what you choose to give up but rather what you're supposed to give up. Like unleavened beer or something like that. Maybe I'm wrong. It's been a while since I've read the Bible.

"Debts must be collected, bonds and mortgages must be foreclosed as rapidly as possible. When, through a process of law, the common people lose their homes they will become more docile and more easily governed through the influence of the strong arm of government, applied by a central power of wealth under control of leading financiers.

This truth is well known among our principal men now engaged in forming an imperialism of Capital to govern the world.

By dividing the voters through the political party system, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting over questions of no importance. Thus by discreet action we can secure for ourselves what has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished."

Re: Today is Ash Wednesday.
Did you know that the mandating of fasts as well as celibacy was one of the identifiers of antichrist given in the prophecies of the Bible (1 Tim. 4:3). Additionally did you know that "ash wednesday" is not a prescribed holy day in the BIble, and that hebrew holy days being circumvented with pagan ones was another identifier of antichrist, along with the "transfer" of the saturday-Sabbath to sunday, and the inquisitions (Dan. 7:25)?

Did you know easter is also a non-biblical holiday but has it's roots in paganism? Jesus said he came to fufill the law and the prophets (old testament, Mt. 5:17-19). Passover, a holy day prescribed in the Bible, falls on April 19th this year. If you're going to celebrate "HOLYdays" why not celebrate God's rather than those that glorify satan?

God says come out from the apostate religions and have nothing to do with them. Study the prophecies my friend.

The real trick is to learn to think critically; ask better and more questions. Don't accept anything at face value. Be sure you're making healthy decisions, getting adequate rest and spending proper time reflecting on things.

I think in the past seafood was plentiful and cheap so it was the go to food for fasting days in Lent. Now it's more expensive than meat and considered a luxury food.

Remember giving something up for lent when we were kids? We actually took it pretty seriously. You would give things up like a certain food or swearing. I forgot how long it would last? A few months or something. My sister was great at keeping her promise. Me ...not so much. If I hung out with my friends I was usually swearing by the weekend.

By the way, did you know that Jews, because they ate according to the Bible didn't get the black plague when it broke out in europe (look it up, and of course as a result they were blamed for starting it by "poisoning the wells").

A real fast is total abstinence from food. And while Christians are not saved by what they do or don't eat, that doesn't change the fact that God says in his Holy Word that lobster etc. are not intended as foods to be consumed by humans. We should have enough faith to take Him on His Word, but nonetheless, as the testimony of history relayed above demonstrates, those who obey will be blessed.

and for all these non catholic trolls just a friendly reminder:
Misunderstanding of No Salvation Outside the Church: The Catholic Church; the Catholic Faith and the Institution put in place on Earth to protect the Catholic Faith I find to have 3 separate definitions. Salvation is found only inside the Catholic Church only because it is the same thing and equal to the Mystical Body of Christ. To be in the Mystical Body of Christ one must worthily partake in the Eucharist and have Jesus Christ reign King of their soul. Hence any Orthodox who believes in the Catholic Faith could be a Catholic. Jesus Christ must reign King of your soul to be saved and the only way Jesus Christ can enter your soul is through the miracle of the Holy Spirit which turns simple Bread and Wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ as the Rightful King and High Priest has authority outside time therefore can administer the Eucharist outside of time so potentially one could become a member of the Mystical Body of Christ during the moment before the soul leaves the body but that would be outside the authority of the Institution put in place to protect the Catholic Faith on Earth.

.. do you call any man 'father'? Christians are ordered by Yeshua to call no man father because our Father is God.
