Yes! They used lower Bidwell Park, with it's incredible beauty, for those scenes. Chico went bananas over those stars back in the day, it was just a small teacher's college town back then.

Top 5 movie for me

I had always seen this movie in VHS quality for many years. When I saw it remastered in 4k not too long ago, I was blown away. Same as with the remastered Ben-Hur. I was nearly brought to tears. So much love in those old movies. Today, movies are just sterile.

I have this movie on blu-ray - so amazing to watch these 1930s Technicolor movies on a big screen in high definition - it really puts you back in an instant time machine.

Funny though to see all these behind-the-scenes shots in black and white, when the film itself was in colour!

Bidwell Park was a nice place to swim and hike when I was young. Haven't been there for ages. There used to be a nude beach in the upper part of the creek. Chico was a fun party school back in the 80's.

It wasn't colourised. It was filmed in Technicolor. Technicolor goes back to the '20s and the 3-strip process was used in cartoons in the early '30s. Here's an early film example of Technicolor in film - 'Becky Sharp' from 1935 - 3 years before Robin Hood -
