Ultimately they can't of course, but given none of us actually know what we don't or can't or won't know, it's sometimes interesting to mix up the progressions a bit and observe the reactions, if any, including our own, at least in the name of educational self exploration. I was laughing so hard at the possible brown note metaphors that I almost 'broke character' myself, which has been long in coming at any rate.
