The large steel bridge going over the Des Plaines River is rated a 6 on a scale of 1-100. Quoting: BleachedPink1111 ""The discovery of cracks in steel beams along stalkerive this week raised alarms about other problem bridges. Two of the worst bridges in the state are along Interstate 80, crossing the Des Plaines River in Joliet, a rapidly developing area in Will County with heavy interstate truck traffic and distribution centers for companies like Amazon and Dollar Tree."" [link to www.chicagotribune.com (secure)] You know what their answer is to this guys? MORE TAXES!! BWAHAHAHA! And how much you wanna bet those two companies listed above (Amazon & Dollar Tree) didn't pay TAX!?!?! ""Mary Craighead, transportation policy analyst at the Illinois Economic Policy Institute, says the answer is “the motor fuel tax and vehicle registration fees.”" [link to chicago.cbslocal.com (secure)] Hey, hey, HEY! I KNOW! How about STOP mismanaging current taxes and stop selling off streams of income! (Did you know Chicago parking meters are owned by a group of bankers in Abu Dhabi?) Where the hell does all the BILLIONS go that the Illinois Tolls rake in everyday??! I'm sure it's not just Illinois, but the entire country's infrastructure probably needs some updating STAT! I cross that bridge about 3 times a week. Yikes! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73261399 [email protected] Our bridges are failing and so is our spellcheck, it's over. haha, I didn't notice that. All the back roads are falling apart too. I know right after winter it gets really bad, but right now I'm literally avoiding 100's of potholes all around the Chicago and NWI areas that are as deep as my tire. I am at 300,880 miles and my car is really old and my suspension and tires are really bad and it is like a video game trying to avoid damaging my car further. Just last week I went on lunch with my boss, and the YUGE pothole exiting a Chipotle parking lot was filled with water, and I warned her too late and her entire tire fell in and she scraped off her bumper. Ugh. It's been like that for over a MONTH! All these other holes have been like that for weeks. WHY. CAN'T. THEY. BE. ON. TOP. OF. THIS. SHIT?! |

I've crossed that bridge on I-80 many times. It even looks ancient. The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership. |

Ugh. It's been like that for over a MONTH! All these other holes have been like that for weeks. WHY. CAN'T. THEY. BE. ON. TOP. OF. THIS. SHIT?! I'll tell you why. Because they are hiring people from Africa to do the road assessments and if a road has 15 percent of it's original surface remaining, "IT IS GREAT!". Add to that under-funding the whole deal and not making sure anyone actually works and there you have it. There's no excuse for potholes, there is a sand/clay/gravel mix called road base that you can fill a pothole with for practically free, and it will pack in like concrete provided there is road around it. One truck could drive around with five hard workers following and they'd fix 20 miles of road in a day, for $250 worth of (10 tons of) road base and whatever the guys got paid. It would last a few months and be very resistant to going totally to hell if it ever did. ONE truck with five guys like that continually making the rounds looking for potholes would fix every road in Chicago fairly quickly, and for practically free. It would be a temporary repair, but that's a lot better than no repair. Nothing I post is a copyright infringement, do not ding my karma because you saw this elsewhere. |

The power line on the road side are leaning into towards the road. I mean they are really leaning over with main power lines running from them. When you go by and the wind is blowing pretty gusty it really creeps you out. Then take that wind and the high amount of precipitation and you get out of there and by pass that road altogether. I have come down a four lane highway where one came down onto the highway and that line was going crazy like fighting electrical snake. Never have I seen such leaning power poles so close to the road like that. It is like... The most precious things are the simple things in life, always present in the simplest of minds. |

(OP) User ID: 43600782 United States 02/28/2019 02:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the problem is that our federal high ways have been sold out to foreign entities in which roll tolls and taxes do not go to the road they go to the vested entity... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77413845 Sad times in deed when you need roads fixed and the taxes go to a foreign entity. But sure you knew that already! Yep. I tried looking up exactly who owns the Illinois Toll roads, and supposedly it is still in control of Illinois business. But we all know the money isn't being spent on roads... I think it's time to audit the Toll Companies! |

Been in Illinois most of my life and the roads have always been complete shit. Freezes in the winter and buckles in the summer but they are too busy spending all their money on pensions and other stupid shit to fix the roads. This state is a mess I need to move. The govt keeps saying they will build new bridges but it never happens. I suppose they will wait until the bridges fail and then let traffic back up for hours every day while they build. I was hoping for that trump infrastructure bill but it isn't happening. |
