The company he works for has three locations in Australia; Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Quoting: CrazyMama73 We are Canadian. There is a big chance that we may be relocating down under by end of next year. I would like your thoughts on which of those three cities would be best to move our family of four to. Any feedback would help. Where are all the Peeps from down under?? I know you are awake at this time! |

I grew up in Sydney, it is a shit fight nowadays. They have a mosque in the suburb I grew up in and most of the shop signs are in Arabic. The local deputy mayor has just been jailed for fraud and as a result the council has been disbanded and integrated into another shire. I think that he is the dude that painted "Wake up Aussie Moslem take over" on the same council chambers some thirty years ago. Eat shit Salim! And to think that my now deceased German father was naturalised an Aussie in those very chambers. Melbourne is better, except for the weather and the hoards of rampaging Somalis. Great arts centre and lots of live music venues. The 'Espy' in St Kilda is where they shoot Rockquiz..great show. It wasn't until I was speaking to a cousin of mine who is living in Mount Isa, that I realized how damn big Australia is. I was hoping him and my husband would be able to get together for beers. The typical global map does not do it justice on how large it actually is. I think it was like a 20 hour drive if my husband was to try and meet up with my cousin. I agree to judge a person on character not skin color BUT when its a game of spot the Aussie in malls, schools, train stations etc then it can be isolating, especially for kids and teenagers who tend to want to fit in. But if money isn't an issue, if you pick the suburb wisely and send the kids to private schools, then you could practically live in any major city. |

Well at least you have plenty of time to think. Pretty exciting and a BIG change if it happens. Maybe look into outskirts around Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sydney unfortunately ALL 3 can be hot, but you will acclimatise. Sorry haven't done the Snowy Mountains yet, it's on my list to do a week horse ride over them. if you could make that work it would probably feel more like home. 1. Re - Brisbane, also add the suburb of Logan as a NO. High crime, low lying so it floods, but hey it's got an IKEA. 2. Don't do Ipswich (near Brisbane) its a hot strange little shithole, but hey it's kinda almost getting a Costco The Sunshine Coast is about an hour from Brisbane and also has an airport, less busy than the Coolangatta but still a pretty good airport. There is also the Sunshine Coast Hinterlands, lovely lifestyle up there, mountain living with ocean views. (we don't get away much because of the farm, but if we can the sunshine coast hinterland is usually it, it's only a 2 & 1/2 hour drive from the farm, the mountains and the rentals are lovely and the beach (lots of them) are only 45 mins to an hour away. Rural in Queensland is Toowoomba, this is much closer to home for me. I know Toowoomba has lots of good schools to chose from. I did a few years Boarding there for school. Brisbane will be over an hours drive away. Toowoomba also now has a good sized airport, so there is that. Its called the Garden City. Totally different feel to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Toowoomba is well..... *thinking* it's largish, and has everything you would need and expect, without being too big of a city. and it's got more of a "country people" feel to it.... as in people off the land. You want to shoot roos... you will find plenty of peeps that will have a relative living on the land. Or wild Pig shooting - that kind of thing is just a drive outta town. Toowoomba is the "edge" leave Toowoomba to the west and you drive straight into farming pretty much. No beaches and no snow though. Doesn't get the humidity that the other places get. **Toowoomba is on the list to get incoming "refugees" so far they seem to behave themselves, and integrate well. Shit they love to eat at "Nando's" though not sure what'a up with that. LoL If you like to camp and the great outdoors you will love Australia! remember the snakes are (usually) just afraid of you as you are of them. and you might even get a cool Yowie (bigfoot) story to tell the family back home. |
