Glad this is up ! I feed my dogs science diet but the bags. If anyone has a recommendation for another food I'm all ears. i've got two rescue mixes one is 10 one is 5, both under 20 lbs.

Im not sure Vitamin D can be toxic and that this isn't fake news - not Op's reporting ... But an attempt to get people to STOP taking Vitamin D because it works too well to help your health

Wow. The Metabolic & Mobility Veggie/Tuna would be the exact canned food that I give my dogs. Looks like the lot/date number that I have aren't on the list, but that's still concerning.

You have a very lucky dog. Raw is definitely the best but I don't always have time. A few years ago I started feeding my dogs The Honest Kitchen brand of food because it's convenient, made fresh and non gmo. I think it's much better than other brands.

Be careful because sometimes they will add more to the list in a few days.

Vitamin A from cod liver can be toxic.
Wondering what the source of Vitamin D was.
I've also heard conflicting reports that Vitamin D only comes from the sun, no dose is effective orally.

Sadly, the dog food is safer than the processed people food.

by the fact she had the symptoms of vitamin D poisoning and had consumed the exact brand and lot etc that was recalled, over the timeframe it was contaminated.

she was put down just two days before I learned of this... there is no argument from the supplier, who has the remains of the last bag bought. I am not sure if they felt the need to test it or not. They wanted it, and I sent it to them.


we all consume added vitamin D if we drink milk. I am concerned the next case will be contaminated milk.

first of all, horrific thirst as they try to dilute the poison.

she was drinking from the low birdbath in the yard, coming in, and drinking repeated bowls of water.

diabetes does that.... but she did not have other signs of diabetes.

diabetes makes you eat a lot too - polyphagia - and she had loss of appetite


she had muscle issues, gait issues, but the incessant thirst is the worst thing I remember.

I had her put down rather than go through one more day of her suffering.

We get a variety and use the better ones as a part of what they get, but have been moving to more cooked for awhile. I keep checking truthaboutpetfood for alerts when somebody brings bag food. We get 40-100lbs of that a month as "in-kind" or trade

Vitamin D Side Effects can be:
Kidney stones
Confusion or disorientation
Muscle weakness
Bone pain
Weight loss or poor appetite
Extreme thirst
Frequent urination
Nausea, vomiting, or constipation

I have used ergosterol in probably the majority of cancer cases as a first grab saver and have the power to gas the sh*t out of people (literally..) and yes, all vitamins can cause symptoms of toxity whether they are very toxic in and of thier selves or not - thats the hooky
When you add that people are such unbelivevable toxic waste refineries, it can take huge amounts of a thing to achieve the desired effect because thier "software" is so gummed it starts throwing off thier motherboard, heading for thier bios (couldn't resist) but I see every change and mix drinks to the drunk, because once thier system reboots from morbidity to vitality, the same thing they took on the deathbed will make em shat the house. No "thing" there anymore to consume it all, so the body either spreads it all over trying to cope or tries to keep it all in one place, depending what it is. Out is what it wants.
Ok, the animals normally take fractions of the precursors & etc that humans do, even if thier eating has been terrible. They "od" really easy and can't get the explanations of why and what to do, they just go into bio protect mode which can sometimes kill them like it does us.
So its not always the substance when you factor in body, condition and individual. Sometimes of course it is, but you see the variables involved that i mean.

BUT the SOURCE of the substance can vary and that can be the "detail" that did it as well. Organics often include thier own "antidote" like echinacea has an echinacea-cide too, whereas cipro does not. Stripped of the natural balancer, what seemed harmless....

There's a book out there with a title something like "the (or a?) Drs book of vitamins" you might like. I picked it for the library because I thought "this is what people want" but that was 20 years ago.

Nooooooo!!!!!! We just spent nearly $10k saving our dog from pancreatitis. Her survival now depends on a ultra low fat diet and the i/d Low Fat Chicken Stew is EXACTLY what we feed her!!!!

I got a new bag of Hills Active Longevity 2 weeks ago.

After a day both of my dogs looked like they had gas and were swollen.

Then it seemed like they were going to vomit but did not. Followed by Constant lip licking, bloodshot eyes, stomach cramping, restlessness, etc.

I decided to go to the vet on Monday after a long weekend with no improvement.

They were given antibiotic shots and some to take home. This morning I could tell that they are back to normal.

I'm really surprised because I never suspected the food. The reason I got it was because they like it much more than another brand I tried on a whim.

I'm really thinking that Hills maybe should recall the dry food as well.

Most of the industrial food is bad for your pet. Especially the dry food. Imagine the stress on stomach:
dry food goes in, absorbs the fluids, body needs to replace this acid amount, the "food" mass swells up,
then does not melt much, passes gut, not much absorbed, just produces solid pretty dry poop!

Dry food is heated in 200C, that kills all nutrients there MAYBE was in the first place.
All nutri values are just on paper, in name only, slight of hand!
Yeah they inject vitamins and minerals - yet they are not fresh or bioavailable anymore.
But the harshest possible sort. Minerals are just rust and nanodust.
If oxides really were good for anyone, we would chew rocks! Cause that's where they are grinded of (calcium carbonate, for example)

Vets know that dogs die of liver failure mostly these days, if not diabetes. Old age is no precise cause.
It is because of metals and and chems liver cannot expell (bioaccumulation). And get to their brains and eyesight, too.

End rant. :)
P.S. Pets love variation in diet also! Please, do not feed same amounts and same food all the time.
And when you give bones to chew, that's enough for the day! Bones and marrow are digested at different rate, so no good giving other food the same day.

Damn these companies!!!!

My sweet baby was put on this with the canned wet food after bladder stone surgery. It made her gulp water like a fiend and have accidents in the house. In addition, it made her excessively hungry. She began to have issues with coordination, and stumbled a few times. I went back to the vet and they told me she had Cushings-- and wanted to run even more expensive tests and put her on expensive medicine. I decided to forgo the testing and just let her live out her life.

I immediately discontinued the Hills C/D canned and started adding human food that was approved for bladder stones to her dry Hills C/D. She is still drinking quite a bit, but far less than before. She also seems far more sure footed. After reading this, I am truly thinking of stopping the Hills altogether.

It's incredibly expensive, and after reading this I am not convinced it's safe for my baby.


I am so grateful for GLP, you guys may have saved her life.
