OK, it finally happened...

I regularly call people morons when I post (I know, that's not good). Still, I have never called a person a name face-to-face. But today, on my way home from work, I stopped for gas. The pumps were all full, and we were pulling up behind cars waiting for the person in front of us to fill up and then pull into the empty spot. Well, my "wonderful" Japanese car has the gas cap on the passenger's side so I had to pull up in front of a car. When that person pulled out, some bimbo decided she would sneak into the spot from behind as I had to wait until the car completely pulled out before I could have pulled in. Well, I opened my door and called the woman a moron who didn't know anything about gas station etiquette and that she was old enough to know better (she was about 40 but had a young girl with her). She put $3 into her minivan and drove off (I think she was a little afraid of me). LOL

My 22-year-old daughter went to use her debit card the other day to send in her apps for her Masters/Phd program, and her card was rejected. She called the STAR people (the number on the back of her card) and they had put a hold on it because of odd charges.

It seems that when she went to the Georgia Tech Bookstore to buy her books for this semester (Barnes and Noble), the (black) guy who checked her out swiped her number. She knows it was him because she hadn't used her card for a month prior to this except for Kroger, and she swiped her own card. Well, first this guy orders some things on-line at Georgia Tech Market Place to check to see if the card worked, and it did. Then he tried to charge a shit-load onto her card and give it to a non-profit which helps poor minority farmers. So this guy was stealing from the "white" and giving to the "black" and trying to make himself look like a hero on her money...totally disgusting. Needless to say, we are going to push for prosecution. I guess he thought he was taking a tip from Obama -- the new Robin Hood -- it's OK to take what you want from white people.

I look at it this way - there are good and bad points to opening up. As more information comes out about Covid 19, the more we have to realize that this isn't the kiss of death for the average person. Keeping the economy closed, is. So there really is not a choice here, it there?

At the same time I also know that this virus is so contagious that we cannot, as a society, protect grandma and grandpa from catching it if they and everyone else is living their lives. So, that is the first reason why I am not comfortable with the decision we had to make.

The second reason is that there are significant numbers who are negatively impacted by this physically, mostly due to age and co-morbidity. Even when isolating, our numbers have been increasing astronomically in many areas of the state. Habersham County, just south of me, for example, went from nothing to a couple hundred cases and several deaths in just two weeks. As I witnessed yesterday, everyone is now running around, not social distancing, and not wearing masks or gloves, and I fear the numbers are going to skyrocket in the state by the next month. That will overwhelm our medical systems, which have seen some pretty steady business as it is (20% of those tested positive have been hospitalized).

So yes, I am conflicted about being a guinea pig. If it turns out OK, fine. If it doesn't, it's going to be a world of hurt.
