What will be the most valuable prep?

The prep item that is most universally traded and needed?

IMHO that would be FUEL.

Fuel of any kind. From gasoline to lighter fluid, lamp oil, seasoned fire wood, candles,...even a can of crisco.

(BTW you want the brand name ULTRA PURE for lamp oil...it's the cleanest burning lamp oil).

What you need when you need it!
Health, knowledge and skills.
Antibiotics and wound care if you are hurt!
It depends on the future and what events come.
Do not get tunnel vision keep your field of vision wide.
Think back to a year ago, what today is more valuable?
Keeping an overfilled pantry was not a bad choice as much of it has increased in cost and their are still issues with supply and distribution.

You are on with the fuel as my stash has nearly doubled in price.
You know propane is a good one to store it lasts like forever.

WOOHOOOO! I love it! :)

Oil burns.

You can take a skillet, pour a little oil (or shortening) in it. Twist up a few pieces of paper towel for wicks, drop in the oil and light.

Poof, you have a burner to cook on.

You need to use a skillet/pan with a lid so you can snuff out the fire when y'r done cooking.

Please put forth suggestions on when others in your family are not into putting aside any supplies.

In fact, totally against any items, no matter how few of supplies saved.

Dare not even call it prepping.

Call it stocking the pantry. coffee4
 Quoting: Giselle22

Hello and welcome, Giselle!
Avoiding triggers, right? Can do. I'm not able to lift and carry much just now, and kind of overdid recently. An odd situation came about recently and I was able to order rather a lot from a particular store - food, cleaning supplies, and sundries. It was all delivered to my porch, and the number of boxes in various sizes and weights was astonishing. In fact, all three steps and the landing were covered. I was not even able to step out onto the porch! Three carriers delivering in one day.

Neighbor across the way has been offering consistently [insistently?] to help me in any way he can, so I called him. I've made clear in the past that I do not invite anyone in, due to my dog and to avoid any illness, so I think we are mostly past that insistence.

Naturally he was very curious why so much and what was it, so I told him that due to winter expected to be so harsh, and he knows I have multiple health and mobility issues that it seems like shelves are going empty at times and it seemed that ordering most of my winter supplies was a great idea.

He couldn't get here fast enough. LOL Asked how we were going to do this so I suggested he set boxes on my knees and I would roll backward and set them on the floor, then roll forward to collect another box. I had waited until nearly dark for even more privacy. I'm really serious about not letting him in because he has far more curiosity than is healthy.

Discovered he was examining to see if he could find a list of what was in each box. LOL Finally near the end he said he found a box containing paper towels and paper products. Not sure if he was pleased to know I really did order such things, or disappointed it wasn't sawed-off pewpews or quantities of porn.

He seemed to accept that I was stocking up for the winter - would that help in your situation? Because of current illness, and there's talk of another disease going to be spread, and due to the grand solar minimum weather changes, that you don't wish to be risky around others, don't want to have to go out in case of severe weather. Also traffic could be worst with others doing the same right then, and shelves going empty at the same time by those who have not thought ahead. Also, doing more at one time saves gas and time.

I would remind everyone that there is too much curiosity - snooping, even - happening just now. This fellow is just one. Others have been the same. Wants to know what mail I get, what's in my house, what's in my garbage and recycling, and what I bring home when I've been out. His method of learning these things is to offer to help, and to be rather pushy about the offering. Just watch people - and watch them watching you!

Another supply chain port manager with warnings for us

One of World’s Largest Port Operators Warns Global Supply Chain ‘Crisis’ Will Last Longer Than Expected
BY JACK PHILLIPS October 4, 2021 Updated: October 4, 2021biggersmaller Print
The operator of one of the busiest ports in the world suggested that global supply chain bottlenecks will last for around two years.

Speaking to Bloomberg News, Dubai’s DP World Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said he expects bottlenecks to continue until 2023. The issues will result in higher costs for shipping goods, he warned.

“The global supply chain was in crisis in the beginning of the pandemic,” Sulayem told the news outlet, adding that “freight rates will continue to increase.” And “maybe in 2023, we’ll see an easing,” he continued.

Some analysts and other port operators have said that supply chains are struggling to keep pace with demand and deal with labor disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lockdowns, and quarantines.

Sulayem’s DP World is one of the largest operators of marine ports and cargo terminals in the world, with hubs in Africa, India, Russia, Europe, and the Americas.

Giselle, what is their powerful objection to something so little and simple as having a few extra boxes or cans around? I'd like to approach the issue from understanding the problem.

That situation can also be avoided by freezing the flour for three days to kill any potential buggy elements.

Another way to handle it is to repackage the flour with oxygen absorbers. I save my Crystal Geyser one gallon plastic water jugs and when they are completely dry inside, I fill them with bulk items like flour, beans, grains, or rice. Make sure the containers are as full as possible leaving just one inch at the top for the 02 absorber packet. I particularly like the Crystal Geyser jugs because the are taller, narrower, and squarer than most other one gallon plastic jugs, making storage much easier.

Once I have ten full jugs, I line them up and drop in a 500cc oxygen absorber in each jug and quickly tighten down the lid. The process must be done in a very planned and quickly efficient way because once you open the packet of ten oxygen absorbers, they immediately begin their process of oxygen absorption and will be useless in just a couple of minutes if you don't get them into a sealed container.

Screw down the lids *tight* and in a couple of hours you will have a vacuum seal that makes the contents last many more years than if you didn't process this way. I buy oxygen absorber packets by the hundred, and yes I get them on Amazon. Be sure to label the date packed.

Buying bulk 25 pound bags and packaging like this is the most cost effective way to store long term food. Each gallon jug, depending on the density of the contents, has about seven pounds of grain, beans, rice, and each one pound has about 1,600 calories which is just barely enough calories for one day of subsistence. So when I see all those full vacuum sealed jugs lined up, each one represents about a week of survival. Obviously this hi carb diet would be amended by canned meat and vegetables, and other varieties of food.

Media has demonized the action of stocking the pantry.

And left leaning thinking is alleging it is now hoarding & being selfish.

Some food tips & suggestions...

Never had any problems with WHITE RICE. Never have done anything special.

I am currently using rice that is 9 years old.

POPTARTS...survival food, long past good by date. Have eaten 2 years beyond date. Take out of box. Store them in a tin. Very thin mylar packaging keeps the pop tarts fresh.

Kroger pop tarts versus generic. Actually the generic, So'mores are superior with the generic graham cracker taste the best in the generic.
