You can take a skillet, pour a little oil (or shortening) in it. Twist up a few pieces of paper towel for wicks, drop in the oil and light. Poof, you have a burner to cook on. You need to use a skillet/pan with a lid so you can snuff out the fire when y'r done cooking. and run down to walmart to get more oil when it runs out. Use some of the excess oil from fish, or beef, or birds, or any other critter, or seeds, or olive trees. But by the time oil runs out I would hope you're using wood! - MC |

At the same time, the FDA announced its approval of the biologics license application submitted by BioNTech Manufacturing GmbH for Comirnaty (COVID-19 Vaccine, mRNA) against COVID-19 for individuals 16 years of age and older. 2 According to the FDA, “there is not sufficient approved vaccine [Comirnaty] available for distribution” in the U.S. 3 In the letter that reissued the EUA for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the FDA stated that Comirnaty and the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines are “legally distinct with certain differences that do not impact safety or effectiveness.” 4 That statement, together with the fact that the FDA issued two distinct letters – one extending the EUA for the vaccine used in the U.S. and the other granting the FDA approval of the Comirnaty vaccine used in Europe and other countries – has caused a great deal of confusion. When I bought mine about ten years ago, it cost $12.00. Probably pricier now, but any bucket and an old toilet seat would probably work. Buy some cheap kitchen garbage bags to serve as liners, and some cheap cat litter to serve as absorbant/clumping material. If you don't want to go the kitty litter route, stock up on a few large bottles of lysol to use in cleaning the bucket regularly. PS-- tested and proven to work. Several years ago, we had a really cold night during the winter when almost all the pipes to my upstairs bathroom froze solid, then burst. We didn't have a functioning toilet for almost a month with all the repairs that needed to be made. This little camp toilet with the kitty litter worked like a charm, requiring little water except to clean it every few days. I used the kitchen garbage bags as liners and the bucket rarely needed to be "cleaned" (no leak through), but I cleaned it any way just because it's a toilet and you can't be too safe with those kind of germs. If the power and water supply is off, couldn't you just put the 13 gallon kitchen trash bag right in the toilet. Then put kitty litter in it. Then you don't have to remove the toilet seat and sit on a bucket... |

WHen I was assembling my old EQ kits, I found a product called 'candle in a can'. It was a sealed can, the candles burned for 24 hours and there was a pack of matches in each can. ANyhow you can find 24 hour burning yummy kipper candles fairly cheap in bulk. I found some in tin cans for about a buck each buying in bulk (48 packs). Interesting to see 'day after' movies/series where all the illumination is from candles. Where the hell did they get all those candles!? Just a glitch. The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker isn't just a childs rhyme. All three of those abilities are good to have. |

Many prep foods already have quite a bit of fat in them (peanut butter, spam, canned salmon, crackers, etc)...but still it's a good point to make. - MC Ya, it gets a bit of a political gong show discussing the merits of some fats over the other. But the thread gives options. People can make up their own minds. Anyhow..I thought of a thing in the fugue state of dreaming that reminded me of what I know. A bit of a story. Sorry but you will see how it fits. Growing up in SOuthern Ontario I was surrounded by orchards and fields. Well, the entire Canadian fruit industry moved to the Okanogan in BC. "Let's centralize Canada's fruit production into the best place". That is what I learned in the mid 70's until the early 80's when teenager hood took over and I simply didn't give a fuck. So...ffwd from my days running though orchards that were neglected waiting for the blade and having apple fights where many a bent nose was formed. So I move to BC and had the time and money to take a few Permaculture design courses and even taught one. I loved walking down the cherry blossom, tree filled streets in the spring dancing like a dervish. So I was approached by a documentary film maker (I won't give his name but big with the CBC) to do a 2 part series on Urban-Rural Permaculture in SOuthern BC. I did (preQ) what I deemed fit...I did deep digs. The KNowledge Network had already gave us 'research money' (10k). THe first thing I found in my deeper diggings was...the City of Vancouver in the early 50's took money from the Okanogan Fruit Growers Associates and the group representing the green grocers of Vancouver to plant...guess what...flowering trees only. I loved (as stated) the cherry flowers. But Vancouver could have been filled with productive trees. 'Sidewalk mess/stain' was the reason given. Let that sink in, an entire urban and burgeoning street landscape could have been filled with useful to human perennials. I cycle back now |

Sooo If you are in an urban area..do you know where the backyard trees are, the useful ones? Maybe you live urbanely with the Italians who love side greenhouses to ripen figs better and hide their stills? Make maps of 20-50 blocks around you. They won't all live but the perennials will...produce until they don't. The urban areas, once a scenario has swept by, is filled with more resources then the country. I'm not talking Manhattan. But shove me into East Vancouver and I've toured hundreds of Portugues and Italian gardens and there is a bond between gardeners. LIke Selco says "we didn't regret having more relatives mouths to feed because we became a team". That might be it unless a tsunami wipes things out but even then it is a gong show. Go to the countryside...what will you find growing? Inedible corn, inedible soy etc. Most farmers aren't anymore. They are soil miners. There are over 3000 apple varieties. In NA, the old ones are in back yards. [link to cuisinedocbox.com (secure)] Keep scrolling...and scrolling. Once a wave has washed over, the future looks bright.
