Oh, that was my cabin on the SUnshine Coast...to get to Cortes is 3 ferries from me [link to ourcortes.com] whereas the SUnshine Coast is one. I still maintain the guest room on the Coast, the cabin is different on Cortes (it's actually a 3 bedroom house). I've decided that in honour of living coastal...I should prolly get a boat! Our shared 41' Fraser built sold, alas. BUt maybe a little put-put thing would be Awesome to flee with. The alternative would be to simply take one, or coerce the captain to take me to either spots...

Mr. Poole, as a result of this explanation, I must inquire again, may I join you?

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
A particularly good friend to this thread sent me an email earlier today for the person who needed refrigeration help. Please take notice. Quoted in its entirety here for Mr. or Ms. AfterAll:

There is a question in the preppers thread...

"Trying to find alternative ways to keep my daughter's insulin cold. Any ideas? I can live without refrigeration, but she can't."

Tell him to search on "PROPANE REFRIGERATOR"...He could run to home depot and buy one right now.

Supposedly the flame it uses is tiny so the tank of propane lasts a LONG time.

Today after work I went into a Goodwill store and found all kinds of desktop computers for $29.99. No hard drive, no OS but I'm a trashcan technologist who is literally typing this message out on a P4 computer.

Thinking of grabbing a few as the opportunity arrives. There's all kinds of i5s there. A step up it seems.

This machine might be recycled into a file server for a community wide wifi project (but I have 586s for that). Maybe into a Tickets machine for emergency use. Dunno yet.

I'm sorry to say we have misunderstood each other, Mr. Poole. I have not propositioned you, by any means. I do believe we would enjoy each other's company, and have many night-long conversations, but absolutely nothing distressing to your Missus. If I am to have a gentleman, of my own, it would have to be literally of my own. I don't share well. I would not for anything disrespect your person or your established arm candy.

My thought was merely of wide water, glorious sandy beaches, a few random shells, and good company.

My thought also was of teasing you madly without a scintilla of truth in it! After all, you had me totally confused one day last week, so I owed you!

You are moar then welcome to come and sit by the river as a house guest and I could prolly muster up a coastal trip to Tim's place where I have a room! I'm a monk anyhow, and she's fine with that. But for sure, if you feel a need to get out of Dodge, we're here (High_Strangeness is her btw). As you might be able to tell, I'm a damn fine cook! Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
Last week I mentioned a strong feeling that before the week was out several things would be coming down on us at the same time. This proved trued - we had the horrors of what's happening and continues to worsen in Afgh, the extremely strong and unusual hurricane only to be followed by perhaps three (strength unknown) more and events here in our own nation, including discussion of removing BiDidn't by one means or t'other.

We are in it, for sure, with threats in so many directions, including a person who tossed his Marine career and now wishes to pull together people of violent tendencies, a poor idea indeed. We do certainly need to stand up, stand on our principles in all these matters, but creating violent insurrection - NOOOOO. Bad plan, bound to lose, unless brought about by attacks, needless, pointless attacks, upon us. We need civil disobedience - people have suggested a number of times to simply take a day off, EVERYONE, and do not go to work. This would get the attention of people who then would perhaps be willing to sit down at the table and discuss the issues and come to a better understanding of the needs and desires of each group. The lack of tax income for that day would definitely underscore our seriousness about this discussion.

Are others here willing to become involved? Serious enough to set a date and contact everyone you know, explaining why we wish to take this day for discussion? We must make certain people understand no violence is involved, no weapons, no arguing. We need to write out very clearly our "position papers" making every bullet point achingly clear, and share them with our discussion partners.

I would very much like to know how people here feel about this possibility. Of course, with all that is happening, and now the scene could involve a power down from CME or whatever the cause, our plans could be interrupted for the foreseeable future, or even indefinitely, in which case my current idea bank will be empty for a bit. Perhaps at that time merely learning new ways of survival will be all that we can handle til life stabilizes again.

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
Has anyone researched sufficiently to verify the best way to remove heavy metals and other poisonous yuk from rainwater?

Many of us plan to replace our water storage with what comes from the skies, and of course we will need to purify that water prior to drinking, cooking, etc with it.

Purification will not, I do not believe, remove what has been sprayed in the skies, perhaps fallen from all those satellites, and been sprayed, as in bunker fuel, near every coastline of the world.

So - do people have a plan for this? If so, would you be so kind as to share? Or perhaps we need a roundtable discussion so that we all put in some of the pieces and come out with a beautiful, workable plan for all of us.

Let's talk about this, please. Your input highly desired.

Water, water every where and nary a drop to drink...
Water filters depend on your scenario, and for most, their budget. Here is a cheap one that comes with 'praise' from my new found mentor. [link to hydroblu.com (secure)]

[link to youtu.be (secure)] I won't embed it, it is a review of the filter I found poking about. SO, click if you want a review.

As for the Lt. Col he didn't mention violence. I think he more so called upon those who were 'in the know' to step out of the shadows and become whistleblowers en masse...but who knows...lol...'poof', all links gone, and tantrums thrown. So, those who didn't see it might be convinced enough to not view it out of fear.

WOOHOOOO! I love it! :)

Oil burns.

You can take a skillet, pour a little oil (or shortening) in it. Twist up a few pieces of paper towel for wicks, drop in the oil and light.

Poof, you have a burner to cook on.

You need to use a skillet/pan with a lid so you can snuff out the fire when y'r done cooking.

If you have olive trees nearby, (like I do) you can burn olive oil.

These kits make it easy, but you could make your own. Other oils can be used as well.

QUOTE
Remember, it’s always about resources. In essence, black markets function on scarcity, regulations, supply and demand imbalances in the regular market.

Anyway, that’s how people get access to prohibited or heavily regulated goods. It can be anything from guns and ammo, unapproved medications, currency, and unfortunately, also drugs, products of criminal activity, wild or exotic animals and birds, exploited children, and other atrocities. Black markets, in general, are a lot less profitable and thus a lot smaller in countries and places with stronger, more vibrant, and exceptionally less regulated economies. Why would someone risk the black market if they can get access to something in the regular economy?

But where there’s demand, there will be supply.
Still, there will always be something people want that’s prohibited or regulated. Therefore, people and the market find a way. The black market is an escape valve, a way to circumvent restrictions and regulations.

And shortages and limitations become quite common during SHTFs. Even ones in which there’s still some institutional order in place. And this concerns us as preppers and survivalists.

When people want something or need something, someone will find ways to provide. It’s possible to suppress and highly regulate a market but not to kill it. If life goes on, so does trading.
CLOSE QUOTE

Having lived in the black market cannabis 'underworld' I should point out that entry into such a market place is, in many instances' already open to those Americans who illegally smoke cannabis. Their dealer, knows a bigger dealer, who in turn knows a bigger dealer etc. all the way up to the grower (or in the case of Mexiweed) smuggler.
In the case of a SHTF...those who already 'dabble' have a chain of trade. If they have something to trade that is.

For new people...the links in this article to Selco and Jose are must reads.

Found this on Detoxing Heavy metals and other toxins from body.
Dr Berg is a good resource for this issue. Sure there are others as well but happen to like him for his straight-forwardness.

As far as removal of heavy metals from water I would suggest to look up 5 Stage Reverse Osmosis Filter system.

Not sure if it can be run stand alone without running water to your home but it sounds like a very good system for a plethora of contaminates.

If you have water and your neighbor doesn't, or the other way around, try this.

You can link water hoses together and have the guy with no pressure shut off his valve to the premise.

But the polarity is wrong. The other end of the hose won't go on the other house's faucet.

You can BUY a female female hose fitting (the hose and faucet will be both be male).

But you might have a washing machine hose laying around. The washing machine hose will be female female.

Also, when you find hose washers cheap, buy some.

I have done this. Both as the guy whose well has gone out and as the guy providing water pressure to a neighbor.
