Quoting: Riff-Raff I'm currently working on a project involving refurbishing old netbook computers, installing a secure operating system, and then copying over 17 GB of data on disaster preparation and survival that I have accumulated over the years. They are specifically designed to be stored long-term in a safe or EMP-hardened shelter where the information can be accessed digitally after a large-scale disaster. I'm calling them SurvivE-Books. I'm also offering the information by itself stored on a USB thumb drive which I'm calling SurvivE-Drives. These are much less expensive but still require a computer to read the data stored on them. I hope to have my first units up for sale on E-Bay by the end of the month. Be interesting to see if they sell. Keep up the good work, Pooka. Nice! Great planning. I'll buy one prolly...gets a bit 'overflowing' to keep everything in my head. |

But you'll notice that... QUOTE I've converted both a small and large freezer into energy efficient refrigerators using this simple thermostat retrofit method. I achieved the best results converting a brand new ~100 litre ALDI upright freezer into a drinks fridge. Electricity consumption for this fridge (after the conversion) stabilised at just over 50 Wh per day. That's about $5 per year in electricity costs. At the other end of the spectrum, I converted a relatively large ~20 year old upright freezer into a refrigerator. The results were still fairly impressive, with usage averaging around 250 Wh per day. This is still about 75% less energy than a regular upright fridge or fridge / freezer combination. END QUOTE it runs efficiently on very little power. So in a powers out scenario, you would have little need for lots of homepower to run the thing. Any electrical types here? |

I do believe it, for multiple reasons, one of which being that my grandfather was a federal meat inspector and he would not have them in the house, knowing what they are made of. I remember listening to only one of his conversations about them, and never listened again. I carefully did not remember the ingredients, and still don't, but I invite you to visit my freezer and see what you do not find there!!! A new study reveals eating a hot dog shortens your life by 36 minutes, while a peanut butter and jelly sandwich adds 33 minutes to your life. (I don't buy this study.
