Also for creamer on can make BULLET PROOF COFFEE.

Use a low acid coffee or make one.

Put in blender with 2 tablespoons of coconut oil & 1 tablespoons of butter & pinch of sea salt. Sweeten to taste.

Blend. Open very, very carefully.

The coffee looks frothy as though you have added cream.

Never thought of this since I only need readers for very fine print. But having a few pairs (cheap it seems) is an amazing thing to barter with, even if you do not need glasses.

If you enjoy tomatoes...this takes up less space then cans/jars nd it lasts a very long time if stored properly. The link was just the first one, shop around. NB...I do not get anything from any of the links I post, and mainly grab the first link when an idea strikes me.

Since I wrote on it a bit in another thread...releasing livestock into the wild. Applied Archeology states that there were millions of people on the Great Plains who died out from '?' and that the bison were released from enclosures. That was the way they were found...roaming in herds. What can you release? Pheasant for one. The unique thing about pheasants is that they will return to the area of their release now and then. With a 8" pvc tube with a mesh grain bag at the end, they will walk in but can't walk backwards so...easy to catch.

We used [link to www.rochesterhatchery.com (secure)] but they don't seem to sell them online anymore.
They are wild birds and can survive quite nicely. Or did in Powell River where lynx, cougars and bears abound.

Guinea fowl. They are non-descript, semi-wild birds. But noisy as all hell. They eat ticks, nest here and there, but aren't very bright for a semi-wild bird. They can easily be released though. And once established, they breed as fast as any other meat bird does. So, if there are woods nearby, or mixed scrubland etc. This might be an interesting thing to do whether it all goes doo-lalley or not.

These are long term prepping ideas, but they are not that expensive. Stack your landscape to provide for you, with stealth. I already mentioned planting peanuts and potatoes in public gardens because most city people won't even know what they are looking at. Like ipomeas.

There are a bunch up the boardwalk from me. The gardeners don't know that there is an edible tuber, maybe tubers, under the soil. I harvest some from Van DUssen gardens large potted display at their front gates.

These are sort of 'scattershot' Permaculture ideas. Since many people don't have the space/resources to do one full on. In all reality to start a decent 1 acre Permaculture cost's anywhere from 10-20k since you 'should' start with your home and most homes aren't designed with edible landscaping in mind. Ie, you should be able to walk out of your south facing kitchen door and walk directly into a garden to harvest fresh herbs without getting your slippers wet!

You are NOT the last hold-out. I'm here - just take breaks sometimes while dealing with health issues. Far as I'm concerned we will still be rolling this way until there's no more internet, or, worse yet, no more us. On the other hand, we can keep rolling when the pressure is off, cuz there'll likely be a next time.

Good to see this thread is still going. It's one of the necessary ones that people need.

I'm currently working on a project involving refurbishing old netbook computers, installing a secure operating system, and then copying over 17 GB of data on disaster preparation and survival that I have accumulated over the years. They are specifically designed to be stored long-term in a safe or EMP-hardened shelter where the information can be accessed digitally after a large-scale disaster. I'm calling them SurvivE-Books.

I'm also offering the information by itself stored on a USB thumb drive which I'm calling SurvivE-Drives. These are much less expensive but still require a computer to read the data stored on them. I hope to have my first units up for sale on E-Bay by the end of the month. Be interesting to see if they sell.

Keep up the good work, Pooka.

My current prepper project is thermal electric generators.....basically a way to generate small amounts of electricity to charge USB devices with fire.....it uses Peltier effect chips so there are no moving parts and most of the stuff I have laying around in my junk boxes....

The idea started when I found a fan that circulates warm air around the room from a wood burning stove.....It was a broken return item I got for a buck at a liquidation store....the fan blade was broken but the peltier chip was intact and working.....

BTW I love my local liquidator store.....they sell return items for pennies on the dollar....I find many parts for projects there...

Re: Practical Prepping Protocol even if Poor
I'm poor. And I've been prepping big time. United Way and other charities are charities I used to donate to when I had $$. Now that I'm poor, I have no problem using their mobile food banks. They don't ask prying questions. You open your trunk. Let them know how many people in your family, and they fill the trunk. In my county, there is a location every day except Sunday.

They also handed out the Trump Farmers to Families boxes when they were going. They give you government cheese, USDA excesses, MEAT, eggs, dairy, fresh fruits and veggies.

The thing is, I went to a lot of them throughout my county, not just my local one. I canned meat and veggies with my pressure canner. The cost was only in the extra jars I had to buy. Luckily I was able to get canning lids early on. And I have a lot of jars on loan from friends and family.

Never did anything go to waste. Everything given to me was canned, frozen, eaten fresh or given to a similarly needy neighbor.

So this is a resource you might not know about. Check out United Way in your county and look for their food pantries. With covid, they have you open your trunk and they drop it all in. There is no qualifying. If you're in line, you get food. I drive a beater, but I've seen fancy cars there too. Bad times can happen to anyone.

Since I'm now set with an overflowing pantry, closets and under beds and any place I could put it, I only go once a week. That's enough to top off what I have stored and get fresh fruits and veggies.

To be honest, when the United Way folks came by work and wanted donations, the big bosses all wanted us to give a "Fair Share," and I grumbled because essentially I was coerced into giving a lot more than I would have.

I shouldn't have grumbled.

Now is the time to check the stores for end-of-season gardening supplies. I got some blueberry bushes at Lowe's for $1 this weekend. Nothing wrong with them at all. They were just putting out the fall plants.

I also got some raised beds for half price at Walmart.

Now is also prime yard sale season. I have been getting some good deals on cast iron and gardening tools at estate sales.

Always check the clearance aisle at your stores. It changes daily!

Many of these birds escape the clubs and move elsewhere.

Due to my habit of frequenting the back roads (i.e., the unpaved roads nobody else uses), I have found the pheasant hideout. Easy pickings if need be.

5-gallon buckets can be purchased very cheaply or had free, even, from delis, bakeries, and such. Walmart bakery, for one. Be sure they are food-grade, which they will be from one of that sort of place.
