Either use them to start fires or barter. I read about people in the Balkan wars using lighters as a reliable barter item. People always need to make fire. Bulk batteries. Long shelf life batteries would also be good for barter. Even better to also have lots of cheap smaller flashlights too. T-shirt rags. Ctton t-shirt material is super useful for all kinds of things whether it be cleaning, patching, mask, first aid bandage wrap, etc. Good stuff. Rocket furnace. Zoom stoves or other types of rocket stove that can burn any type of organic fuel is great. They really magnify the cooking potential with less fuel. Paracord. Can never have too much paracord. Learn how to tie various knots too. Tarps. Tarps. Tarps. |

With that high MPG you spend about the same on gas than you would running the heater and AC, but then you're always comfortable and again, you get to see great places. |

User ID: 79526427 United States 02/01/2021 11:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe some day. Right now I'm busy monitoring the end of the world and a possible silver short squeeze. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77989072 If both happen...I'll be the richest dead person in the world - MC MC, having never purchased precious metals before, I'd like to pick up some silver locally and soon. Where shall I go not to get ripped off any more than unavoidable? Wish I could ask you this question in PM, but you know . . . Order online as SDBullion.com, as of this morning they still have some silver rounds (not US coins but they are pure silver and will probably be acceptable for their intended use in SHTF). They also have some 90% junk silver which is old US coins like dimes, quarters, and half dollars that are 90% silver. Definitely will be useful for grey market exchange of goods when SHTF. Also they still have some American Eagles although supply is scanty. My collection is a mix of so-called junk silver coins (it's not really junk, it's just considered circulated/used), silver rounds in 1/2 oz. and 1 oz. sizes, and Canadian Maple Leafs and American Eagles in 1 oz. The Maple Leaf and American Eagles are both recognizably government issued coinage and so they are more expensive to buy while at the same time more likely to be accepted as 'money'. I have accumulated it all over the space of fifteen years, whenever I had an extra couple of hundred dollars (surprising how infrequently that happened). At the same time I have been trying to juggle the purchase of ammo as that is equally if not even more important to have. If I could only get one kind of silver at this point I would get the 90% silver junk coins, preferably in the dimes but any denomination will do. After the economic collapse, people will quickly learn that those old silver coins are worth many multiple times what their face value says. They are also in small enough denominations that you could for instance buy a loaf of bread for a silver dime without wondering how to 'break' an ounce of silver for change from the seller. All that being said, however, be sure you have enough food. Canned meat and grains/beans for sure, and whatever you have now, double it. The Great Depression lasted 10 years, and millions of people starved to death right here in the USA. This collapse is going to be so much worse because so many people now live in cities with no means of food production. Back in 1930 everyone either was a farmer or had a relative with a farm... One cheaper way of preserving your wealth is to get dollar coins. They cost a dollar, LOL. The Sacagawea coins or the buffalo dollars are BACKED BY THE US TREASURY whereas paper money is backed only by the Federal Reserve and has no government backing. Pure fiat money whereas the coinage of the US has government backing. Yes it's a fine point but it's also true. Just call your bank and order some rolls of dollar coins to hang on to, their perceived value will become apparent when desperation sets in. |

User ID: 28178764 United States 02/01/2021 01:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Be careful with silver. Commodities are a whole 'nother animal than stocks. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79231772 There is no market cap. There is no shortage in supply. The mines will ramp up production when the prices go up, they'll sell all they have, plus they'll sell forward production. The government intervened when the billionaire hunt bros. (billionaires way back in the day...crazy rich) tried to corner the market and while they were so rich they couldn't destroy them completely, they did a lot of damage, and the hunts took a VERY large haircut and it took ..really i think more than a decade to finalize it all. This is NOT a stock. Very hard to corner commodities. Sure, it will go up for a bit, but it will come back down quickly when they want it to. Don't mess around with money that means something to do. Don't buy a run up, and take profits. Don't think it's tiny little investors going to topple the giant with their sheer numbers. We are gnats. As I posted on another thread earlier, the govt will just get out their regulatory can of raid and spray us all dead. There are better hills to die on. That said, if you want to buy right away and take profits as you go, that's one thing. Bear in mind the historical high for silver was $50 oz. If you want to buy for a rainy day and hold, that's ok too. But anyone telling you to buy and hold no matter what with silver .. or ANY commodity... just doesn't understand how those markets work. Stocks are one thing, they are finite, there are only so many stocks available to be had. Commodities are not finite, and when prices go up, they can afford more ways to produce, except in cases of total crop failures or animal disease, and still these are temporary in nature...but silver? There's plenty in the mines, and the miners will be THRILLED to go into production and sell it at higher prices. Thank you for this. Hey, Pooka, I decided to drop in again. Ref prepping, I bought silver coins when they were cheap. I have a Masters in Econ, so I KNOW what happens when gov debt goes asymptotic and unpayable. The book, This Time It's Different, covers the history of currency debauching, debt defaults, and hyperinflation that ALWAYS occur with such financial madness. It has been thus since ancient times. What follows such hyper events is CHAOS with revolutions, coups, rampant crime, etc. I just hope we don't have something akin to the French Revolution followed by Napoleon. For years we have known that TPTB have manipulated the price of PMs lower. However, if enough peasants buy PHYSICAL metals such as silver coins, there is nothing the govs can do about it. Sure, the Fed can backstop the losses of the banks and hedge funds, but the price of physical will still reflect reality. And the reality is that runaway debt leads to hyperinflation, hence, PREP. I fully expect that my Social Insecurity check, retirement check, etc. will become nearly worthless. At some point in the future I will be selling vegetables and eggs at the front gate of my farm. Will take gasoline, scrap metals, ammo, etc. as payment if greenbacks become toilet paper. Still strongly considering selling my homestead and moving to Central America where I have a lot of loving, loyal family. |

I suggest that we are in an end game scenario for our currency. Whether the finale arrives this Summer or in 5 years I think it is a short to mid term event that is definitely coming. So I suggest increasing your silver holdings regardless of spot price. In fact a good measure of impending hyperinflation will be silver spot. The higher it goes the more urgent it is to increase your holdings. Thems my 2 cents. |

When the dark days hit you won't have to worry about your feet for 2 years. I work a hard job and can't get any tennis shoes to last more than 2 or 3 months.
