Step 1 Quoting: LogicalReason Look at Vacation Rental Housing Air BnB There may be short term rentals available that you are not aware of! Stay at motel hotel and negotiate a lower rate for long term Step 2 All your stuff goes into Storage. Find a hotel that accepts pets. Four cats might be a problem, though. In the alternative, board them at a vet's office or boarding facility. The cats will be miserable but eventually they'll come home. Actually, they'll be miserable when they come home to a new house or apartment until they get used to it. It's a pain right now but it will all work out in the end. But he's homeless in the sense that the house they were going to buy is on hold because the loan is a federal loan. And he already moved out of his apartment because he was supposed to close on the new house. "Homeless" has the connotation of one having no money to pay for a place to live. It doesn't sound like that is the case here. Would you two be happier with the "in between homes" bit instead instead of tearing down the OP further? Yes, because "in between homes" fits the situation much better. I don't see how it's tearing him down. The way I see it, truthwillsetyoufreeagain, you're wanting or really demanding the OP use a PC term in order to make yourself feel better about the OP's situation. Quite frankly the OP is homeless due to their unfortunate circumstance. Now get over trying to PC up this thread and even this board. I'm not asking for anything other than prayers. Quoting: Zedakah I have always been 'cursed' with horrible luck, and if there is an exception to something, then I somehow always fall in it. I am one of the very very few affected by the shutdown, and I'm not even a government employee. If the government doesn't start back up by next week, I will be homeless. I don't work for the government, nor do I receive any benefits from the government. BUT, I cancelled my lease for my current apartment, because I am buying my first house. We are closing next week. The loan is a federal government loan, and they have informed my wife and I that they refuse to issue the loan as long as the government is shut down. So, I will be packing up everything I own into a moving truck and parking it somewhere until the government reopens (assuming the house I am buying isn't sold to someone else by then). The worst part is the loan is simply backed by the government. All the paperwork is done, but they are refusing to sign it until the government is funded. For what it's worth, I 100% blame the democrats. But, just keep in mind that some of us can be very-oddly effected by a government shut down, so I do hope it is resolved soon with Trump coming out on top. When North Korea is easier to negotiate with than the democrat party, then something is horribly wrong with them. You are buying a house but you can't afford to rent a 2bit motel room for a month? That's just not believable dude. Don't know why there's so much doubt from Canada tonight. Does the Canadian government just furnish you guys with houses from birth or something? I have $10,000 in savings. Every bit of it is tied up by the bank and real estate agency. I can't apply for any loans either. That said, my contingency plan is to either move in and rent the place early, or sell off some stuff since I'm moving anyway and find a motel that will allow four pets (which most won't allow one). Quoting: *Sloane* Positive thoughts your way. This is our first time home buying, and everyone said it would be a huge headache. Funny thing is, the process was going perfectly until the government shutdown. Putting your stuff in storage would be expensive and a pain, but not as expensive as renting an apartment. Do you have enough money to buy a used RV and live in it briefly until this is straightened out? Could be an adventure and you wouldn't have to worry about the cats. |

I recall as a youngster having my first good paying job, but being broke until I got a few cheques under my belt. I had nowhere to stay to work that good paying job unless I wanted to live in my van for 2 months. Know what I did? I slept in my van for 2 months. As for OP, he's got a month of mortgage he doesn't have to pay since his mortgage didn't go through yet. Use that month of mortgage he doesn't have to pay to rent a fleabag motel for a month. If it was my own kid I'd tell him the same thing. I'd rather him learn life lessons than turn him into a snowflake. Enough of those around already. Embrace the cognitive dissonance. |

I'm about to be homeless because of the shut down, but I still support our president! just stay in the apartment until the shutdown is over. pay the landlord month by month until fha starts approving loans again. if i was the landlord, it wouldn't be a big deal to me to let you pay month by month till they get the shutdown settled. Quoting: Dr. Strangelove I can't. This is a luxury apartment, and I had to pay 2 months rent to break the lease and give a 60 day notice. They already have it booked for a move-in day for someone in 2 weeks. Then they might be breaking the law. The most they can charge you for is two weeks. They can't double dip if it is occupied. My husband and I have a few rentals and my understanding is according to the law you can only charge a tenant for the unoccupied portion of their lease. Even the two weeks is questionable since it is customary to do some renovation between tenants. I know you don't want to screw the new tenants but it's not your problem. I'd play hardball. Tell them you either get to stay until you need without any further issues or reimbursements or you will report them to HUD and the state. Spent the last hour looking up rental laws in my state. The landlord has to provide 7 days notice before eviction, and the most they can charge is "up to the remaining months rent" - which is 4.5 months. They also said I was not able to get my security deposit back, and by law I should be able to get it back. So I will talk to them about that one at least. Call HUD and whatever the HUD equivalent in you state is. They can help you deal with the landlord. If they have that apartment rented in two weeks but charged you two months they owe you 6 weeks. They can only charge you for the remaining term of your lease where it remains unrented and they lose income. The majority lease terms are to protect the landlords loss of income, damage etc. As soon as it is re-rented there is no more loss. There's also some legalese about their right to know the identity of every adult who is staying more than x days. Otherwise the lease is really about protecting the tenant. Get it in writing you cannot stay because it is rented in two weeks. I am betting it is BS one way or another. Either it is not rented or they are betting on you not knowing your rights and double dipping. Sounds to me like that 6 weeks plus security deposit could be huge in your situation.
