Then even the kids, like 8 years old, started bright and early shooting off every kind of explosive device you can imagine. It was literally like a war zone. Poor dogs this time of year! But it is also a time when the Dutch really cut-loose and have a great time! It's a pity, like many other things, that they are trying to stop all of the fireworks. I always tell those that like a good party or just an interesting time, like none other. Come either on Queensday (now Kings day) or New Years Eve! It's VERY Dutch! Looked like my childhood in NY before fireworks were classified as weapons of terrorism. Revell and Aurora made a lot of money off me from blowing up various models. Ah, backyard naval battle recreations. The best ever was blowing up the Hood (huge model over 2' long). Childhood would not have been the same without fireworks. Think I might go to Netherlands next new years! Gen. John B Gordon and Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest were the finest citizen-soldiers birthed in America. |
