I stepped on the cat in a dark hallway several weeks ago and I'm still apologizing.

I wish the chickens would learn it. It's funny when I have to ask the cat to excuse me when I'm trying to sit on the toilet, lol, she likes to beat me to the bathroom and guard it.

I have 4 cats and a dog.

When they trip me while i walk, they never say excuse me to me!
Why would I ever excuse myself to them?…I say "get out of the way"
If they don't get out of way, I just pick them up, give them a kiss and take them
out of the way.

Just "Excuse Me"?

I have entire conversations with them as the cats answer back with meows.

One has a very distinct "Hello" meow and answers my greeting with it.

They can and do develop a vocabulary with you!

Edit to add: he doesn't actually speak English, but in his language it means hello.

Same here!

My Dog can say a few words. When I arrive home he says `Hi` and also when he is hungry he says `food`. Very basic I know but its a great help.

It's actually "Excuse me, honey"!

I definitely apologise to the cat, she looks at me very offended, it looks so funny, I love cats faces but I have to restrain myself and apologise. She follows me everywhere. I talk to her and she's very vocal, sounds like a baby so she always answer back. Lol she loves disturbing me when on the toilet. If the foods empty she holds looong talk when she gets it too like telling me off.

Our pets are family members, when we cook dinner we cook extra for them. They only eat meat and vegetables with occasional homemade peanut butter cookie snacks.

They always get the Ham and Beef bones as we cook with whole meats daily.

So yes, we always say excuse me, we talk to them and they have developed responses to our questions that we understand ....lol

WHAT is that all about? This happened to me this A.M. and
I nearly fell over him! Is this something most cats do?
I just thought he believed I was so wobbly I wouldn't be
able to find it! (Been a fun exhausting Christmas this year,
lol!)

Yes cats do this it's in their nature, looks at me like what are you complaining for but know real well I don't approve. Lol likes to play with the legs. Maybe it's that. Wakes me up by jumping and walking on me lol only sleep in the bed. But, it's cat nature.

They like to pounce on you. That might be why. But why they are so sick to be petted when on the toilet I don't know

OMG, I have full-blown human-type conversations with them. And not just my pets.

I pass several homes on my daily walk where the pets are outside at the time - I always ask them how their day is going and tell them they're doing a good job alerting their people to my presence.

Their people may think I'm crazy, but the pets like me.

I taught one of my cats how to open doors, now bathroom time always gets a visit from him.

Now here's a 'real' talking cat; he was in trouble at Christmas.

Honestly, I believe that most people that care about their pets and recognize them as independent individuals converse with them. I know we sure do, and Newfie dogs are very "vocal" about their communication, as well as very "handsy."

I've taught Hank (my big ol' Newf puppy) how to do "whisper and yell." I get him to sit, for his treat, and then ask him to either whisper or yell. Whisper, he makes this quiet whuffling noise. Yell, obviously he barks a loud WOOF! :laugh" it's priceless.

Mind you, I also say excuse me to an empty room whenever I outgas... cracks my wife up when she catches me hehe.

Only when I'm really hungry and butt in line at the food bowl.

My cat has been taught no means no and stops. Also comes to her name. When I say come too.

my dad would fly into a rage and kick it. she was a small dog too. sweetest dog in the world

I have animals who do apologize when they goof.... not in English of course
