And, I would offer the same to any young person seeing a long-term career now. Do what you enjoy, but make sure that you choose a profession where you deal with your clients on a face-to-face, interactive basis. Many jobs are gonna be outsourced to the lowest bidder, world-wide. Of the remainder, many will automated - either through hard-coded computer control or via Artificial General Intelligence. This will happen sooner than most expect. The jobs eliminated will include many that we call professional or technical now. |

So I wasn't surprised to hear that college kids these days DON"T WEAR COATS. The first minute of this video will show some of what I mean. [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] What I see here is people who have been so pampered or sheltered that they walk around not ever expecting something bad to happen. We were taught to prepare for the worst. That to step away from your home without a coat is imbecilic. So I'm not sure I agree totally with the premise that kids these days are hampered by some sort of foreboding about the future. Perphaps it is just the opposite. They have never been tempered by fire, and so they are naive. They don't like anything that bursts their little naive bubble. They would rather ignore. I know this isn't ALL young people. But I'm older and this isn't normal. When you leave your home, you have no idea what could happen. If you are from down south, you might not understand this. A coat can save your life in the north. User ID: 76813821 United States 12/19/2018 09:57 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well what is the agency that abolished gen x "a few years ago"? Of course their was a generation gap there. Of course they were the product of baby boomer parenting. This is a stupid argument. Also to OP, I dont buy this at all. Basically we should understand that millennials are shit because we are realistic and they want to to have hope? How about you tell your millenials that you dont have a birth right to success. And success comes in different forms. But it is no longer 150K worth of college guarantees that executive job your parents had. And those degrees are still out there. So if you find money as your measure of success then quit getting stupid ass degrees. Get useful. But the real truth is that good money can be made by getting your hands a little dirty. College is no longer the ultimate answer. But first and foremost we have to remember that we are the adult in this situation. We are supposed to guide them and be parents. Not friends. It isnt our job to make sure our kids are feeling happy every minute of the day. It is our job to make sure they live happy lives overall. And that will come by being decent humans and members of society. It will happen when they make enough money to move out of your basement. Sure things change in time. But not the need to be productive citizens that consider others and not be self absorbed little shits. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Certain things, they should stay the way they are. You ought to be able to stick them in one of those big glass cases and just leave them alone. |
