Quoting retired Gen. Mark Hertling, "It has been reported that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Joseph Dunford and Gen. Joseph Votel, commander of the U.S. Central Command, were out of the loop in the decision making and thus had no time to prepare for an orderly withdrawal."

Votel’s staff probably got the word at the same time as everyone else in the country, and right now they and the troops in the field are facing a very short withdrawal timeline and wondering WTF?,” said Hertling. “Imagine you are a young Special Forces captain or sergeant in Syria advising our Kurdish partners, and suddenly the Kurds who’ve been fighting alongside you against the Islamic State hear the news that U.S. forces will abandon them within a month. That’s a very uncomfortable position to be in.”

Syrian Army sends large convoy to southern Manbij as Turkish military prepares for offensive

BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) sent a large military convoy to the southern countryside of the Manbij on Saturday, a source told Al-Masdar News.

According to the source, the Syrian Arab Army’s convoy arrived in the town of Ta Aswad earlier today, as they prepare for the upcoming Turkish military operation.

The Syrian Army’s convoy reportedly consisted of hundreds of soldiers and tens of tanks and armored vehicles, the source added.

This move by the Syrian Arab Army comes just three-days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he was withdrawing his country’s troops from Syria.

While they have yet to receive approval from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to jointly control their territories in northern Syria, the Syrian Arab Army has taken precautionary moves to protect their lands from the Turkish military.

The decision will force Israel to reduce its intoxication with power. Relying exclusively on military might has never worked in the long run.

Suddenly, amid the sea of disgust, ridicule and anger that Donald Trump provokes, the U.S. president has made a decision that inspires hope – the withdrawal from Syria. Faced with the chorus of wails from Israel, which of course also includes more than a little schadenfreude directed at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, we have to say thank you to Trump. Thank you for a decision that will ultimately benefit Israel, the United States and the region.

Not only did the president keep his promise, not only is he continuing his predecessor’s wise policy, but even for Israel, his decision, which has naturally been depicted here as calamitous, bodes well. It will force Israel to stand on its own two feet and reduce both its intoxication with power and its excessive strength, which are extremely destructive for both Israel and the region. This decision promises to bring Israel back down to the ground, at least in Syria. Syria first.

Israel’s reliance on its enormous military might and its belief that power will solve everything, combined with unreserved American support, hasn’t been good for Israel. We can only hope that the withdrawal from Syria heralds a change in direction for the Americans, not just a hasty, one-time decision.

If so, Trump will become a true friend of Israel, one who cares a great deal more about its future than everyone who arms and finances it – its false friends. Like a father who decides to end his bear hug of his spoiled child so the child will learn to cope with reality, maybe Trump will free Israel from America’s harmful aegis, a honey trap that has corrupted it to the core.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took time from his busy schedule to snipe at Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday, claiming that Ankara cannot claim the moral high ground over Tel Aviv as long as Turkey continues to attack the Kurds.

The Turkish and Israeli leaders exchanged mutual accusations on Saturday, with Erdogan claiming in a speech that Jews "beat women and children who are prone on the floor," and Netanyahu accusing the Turks of harassing the Kurdish population of Turkey.

"The Jews in Israel kick people laying on the ground. In fact, Jews don't kick men but also women and children when they fall on the ground," Erdogan said during a Saturday speech at an Istanbul meeting of the Turkey Youth Foundation, referring in particular to Palestinian victims of Israeli violence.
