Moscow. 12 December. INTERFAX.RU - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that “in a few days,” the Turkish military would launch an operation on Syrian territory east of the Euphrates River. “It’s time to implement our decision to eradicate terrorist groups east of the Euphrates,” the newspaper said. The President explained that such actions will contribute to a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Hurriyet in turn recalls that on December 11, the Pentagon announced the deployment of observation posts in northern Syria in order to prevent clashes between the Turkish army and the US-backed Kurdish militia. Earlier, Ankara appealed to Washington not to take this step, the newspaper adds.
