BREAKING : Thousands of French students protest now in Paris (Live)

Even as it grapples with violent demonstrations over living costs, the French government is hunkering down for a “Black Tuesday” of protests by high-school students who have jumped onto the Yellow Vest bandwagon.

Up to 300 French high schools, known as lycées, were barricaded every day last week, amid scenes of vandalism, bins set on fire and violent clashes between police and students. The tense standoff made international headlines on Thursday when video footage posted on social media showed riot police in a Paris suburb forcing dozens of students to kneel down in rows, their hands on their heads.

Could you imagine if a terrorist ignited a pressure cooker bomb in that crowd. Then the protesters would blame the police...

My town must have about 6 or 7 high schools in total. I do not see or hear any protests. The kids went to class.

Only one of them is private. The rest are public.

The parents would not tolerate it. These are farmer kids or local employees kids.

I hear the Paris kids chanting "Justice pour Adamal".

The crowd is too big to be contained on small streets, even teargasing them will cause a stampede.

every much of the local protests were horded into corners.... just saying...

Now they have to let them into open, so the police can use teargas.

This is happening in Saint Germain des Prés, where only the mega-rich can afford to live.

They can't stop them with just 20 cops, without using force.


They have to let them pas.



The worst thing that the police can do is actually using force against very young people, no matter who they are.

Some Policemen are without helmet or at least with the visor up... so it seems quite peaceful at the moment.

But it could change very fast...

This is a really nice part of Paris. Some of the best you can find.

They used to have all the literary cafés with Jean Paul Sartre and Albert Camus and the famous Jazz Clubs with Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan, among others, not forgetting Boris Vian and Juliette Greco.

That was in the 50's and 60's.

Would be a shame that they break and loot all the beautiful stores.

These are not chain businesses they are individually owned. Many high end restaurants and brasseries.
