"Jinn" means exactly the same thing as ghosts. Muslims call them "Jinn" because their religion is strongly against the idea that the spirits of the dead could haunt places, so they have came up with the idea of jinn separate beings from humans entirely in order to make ghosts fit in with their religious views.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83820390 Not really. It means the same as the old greek word Daimon. Which is basically a catch all for all spiritual beings from gods, to demi-gods, to angels/devils/ down to nature spirits and elementals and of course dead humans as well. Later Islam fit it into their religious narrative the same way the christen church reworked the Greek daemon into the Christian demon.
