Anyone have experience with using a Go Pro Black Camera for shooting the night sky?

I am considering investing in a Go Pro Hero7 Black and have poured through much of the youtube videos on it, but still not sure whether it is worth the investment. I have seen some impressive videos even with the Go Pro 4, so not sure which version to start out with.

I want to do a time lapse of the Geminid meteor shower this year and we are traveling to Dauphin Island, AL to shoot it. We will be directly on the Gulf of Mexico where we viewed it last year. This year the show promises to be just as great as last year due to the waning moon. So, if you have any tips, I would appreciate it.
