why not go with CB?

Walkie talkie apps require Wi-Fi or data connections, although due to the heavily compressed audio they use very little data. As a result they can even work on an ancient 2G connection, should you find yourself in a place where there’s poor network coverage.


So you will be relying on the phone company still.

If internet and phones go down so will your walkie talkie.

I would go MURS walkie talkie. They have range of about 2-4 miles, you can get a base station for your home/garage. No licensing and inexpensive.

There are DMR Smartphones with VHF or UHF technics out there - having such a modul in a smartphone means you CAN use it in a SHTF situation, problem is the range.

Therefore CB would be better and a lot oft people use it.

Sometimes I use a President George FM in my Impreza, mostly at rallye events so I can listen to the safety officers - it is a system that simply works.

Maybe I will test one of these dmr phones one day.

A two-way radio will be a homing device for the bad guys to find you.
Its called being a battlefield emitter.
If it is Chicoms they will have a fleet of frequency sniffing drones amd helicopters looking for anybody with a radio and will send a rocket on top of your shivering ass.

Take all your electronics and throw them in a lake.
