The worst offenders were Quaker Oat products, which regularly clocked in at 400 or more glyphosate parts per billion, meaning they would be dangerous for children if even 27.5 grams were consumed daily. A single packet of Quaker’s dinosaur eggs instant oatmeal contains more than three times EWG’s daily safe limit for children. Now we see the consequences of genetically modified foods. Studies in human cell lines in vitro and in animals, as well as in human epidemiological and clinical studies, have shown that Roundup and glyphosate have serious effects on hormonal systems, developmental and reproductive toxicity, malformations, cancer, neurotoxicity and damage to DNA. Secondly, except in N Dakota, wheat ripens completely within the normal growing season. It would be a terrible waste of money to spray it with expensive Roundup. It seems to be a problem in Canada tho. The big offenders are oats, soy, corn, sugar made from beets, and garbanzos. User ID: 76762623 United States 08/16/2018 11:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Cereal killers: Monsanto weedkiller that can ‘probably’ cause cancer found in children’s breakfasts The facts: Monsanto developed some genetically modified crops that resist the effects of Roundup. They did it so that the crops could be sprayed for weeds in the middle of the growing season, and the weeds would be killed but the crops would not. This would be a tremendous saving move for the big agribusiness operations in the Midwest with ties to the government agencies such as the Department of Agriculture. Before these genetically engineered "Roundup Ready" crops, the farm ground was sprayed for weeds just before or right following seeding. Then after harvest was over, the weeds were sprayed again. This resulted in what is called Roundup residue, or Roundup that persists in the soil. The only Roundup residue in food itself was Roundup taken into the plant from the soil through the roots. The Roundup Ready crops however, leave residue on the crop itself, and give greater percentages of residue in testing. There was some testing done here and there, also some in Europe and Canada. These countries, particularly Canada, found higher levels of residue than in the US, where wheat is not sprayed to kill and thus dessicate the wheat. This is a rare practice in the US because except in North Dakota, the longer growing season allows wheat to ripen naturally and it would be a big waste of money. Some agribusiness operations try to squeeze 2 crops out of a growing season and sometimes do kill the wheat this way. But this is not standard farming practice. Thus, in the US, spraying Roundup on wheat to dessicate it is not common practice. And drenching any crop with Roundup is just inflamatory language. Roundup is heavily diluted and sprayed in in a fine spray over the weeds. Even then, it is far too expensive to "drench" anything. Roundup Ready crops, which have yielded far greater concentrations of Roundup than wheat include: Soy (which is found in a large percentage of US foods) Corn (which is found as high fructose corn syrup in a large percentage of US foods) Oats (found primarily in breakfast cereals) Canola (canola oil is one of the most widely used cooking oils in the US) Alfalfa (fed to cattle, with beef and milk products containing the residue) Sugar beets (sugar sweetened cereal is a triple whammy, with high fructose corn syrup and oats or corn in it, with a sprinkling of sugar on the outside) You are far safer eating wheat products than corn, oat or soy products. and you should consider buying organic as much as possible. Do not use corn oil or canola oil for cooking. If you use sugar, look for cane sugar. I don't know how safe olive oil or coconut oil are because there has been so little testing. Here is a link about the resumption of testing for weed killers, which was suspended in 2015: FDA Resumes Testing Foods For Weed Killer, Safety Questions Grow Posted on June 8, 2017 by Carey Gillam The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has resumed its first-ever endeavor to evaluate how much of a controversial chemical is making its way into the U.S. food supply. And the tests can’t come soon enough as safety concerns about the herbicide known as glyphosate grow. The FDA, the nation’s chief food safety regulator, launched what it calls a “special assignment” last year to analyze certain foods for glyphosate residues after the agency was criticized by the U.S. Government Accountability Office for failing to include glyphosate in annual testing programs that look for many less-used pesticides in foods. But the agency scuttled the testing after only a few months amid disagreement and difficulties with establishing a standard methodology to use across the agency’s multiple U.S. laboratories, according to FDA sources.
