At first glance, the news release seemed to be smirking: “In yo’ face, Mayor Kenney.”

On second glance, too. The purpose of the handout from the U.S. Department of Justice was to announce that Juan Ramon Vasquez, who’s been in my column before, pleaded guilty to illegal entry after deportation, which is a felony.
But that was not as bad as the felony he committed after he was turned loose by the City of Brotherly Enablers after a 2014 arrest.

ICE had requested that he be detained for deportation, but our self-righteous city turned the Honduran loose, and the next time he was in custody it was for raping a 5-year-old girl. I’m sure the victim’s family appreciates Kenney’s policy that protects foreign convicted felons, which is what Vasquez was.

Buddy on the video keeps referring to the 5-year-old as a "young woman". This is a trend I've been observing lately in crimes involving children -- they're being referred to as "young women". The 10-year-old who was murdered by the ISIS operative during the Danforth terrorist attack was constantly referred to as a "young woman" in mainstream media reports.

Words have consequences. We need to stamp out this misuse of the "young woman" term and give childhood back to children. Calling a 5-year-old a "young woman" defers on her a sexuality that she should not be given.

The thing with this is they can't even defend it by saying it was a one off or the majority of illegals are good people. He was a known criminal and they released him into their city regardless.

That said I also watched the Round Table discussion yesterday about prison reform where the President met with several state governors and talked about programs to reduce recidivism, treat addiction, get GEDs and job training for inmates, and save states millions and millions of dollars by keeping people from returning to prison when they're released, I really support this movement and it is too bad it took this long. They were talking about preventing violence in prisons and all kinds of great stuff that I can get behind.

I am against sanctuary cities, I am not soft on crime by a long shot. But I'm not crazy, and I'm glad problems in the prison system are being addressed by people who seem to really care and have had some success.

They say 30% of our prisoners are illegal aliens - we just don't need this burden on our country.

That's my thought as well. This crime could have been prevented had the Mayor and other city officials not been derelict in duties. This is criminal. Surely someone must be held accountable for this and punished for this blatant offense:

At that time, Vasquez was in the custody of the Philadelphia Department of Prisons.

The City of Philadelphia thereafter chose not to comply with a detainer lodged by ICE for the defendant, who was instead released from custody by the Philadelphia Department of Prisons. After his release, the defendant was rearrested and convicted for rape of a child and unlawful sexual contact with a minor. The defendant is currently serving a sentence of 8 to 20 years in state prison.

Sometimes these experiments are put in place for bad purposes, and other times these experiments lead to bad things.
