If in fact there was a sleep of the soul, Christ would have spent three days without being God,

WHAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTT??????!!!!! (Pastor Paul Begley mode)
****
To deny the divinity of Jesus is a sin against the Holy Spirit. Sin that has no forgiveness. This is even worse than mortalism, it is pure Gnosticism. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and GOD while there is time, my friend.
 Quoting: Aristarc

You are denying that Jesus is the Son of God, and denying that the Son of God died on the cross.

Look up the definition of Antichrist.

You are also flat out denying the existence of God the Father.

Many years you bore with them and warned them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet they would not give ear. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands. You gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. Nevertheless, they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.

Re: Christians do not go to heaven when they die.
They "sleep" in the grave until the resurrection (2nd Coming).

Most Christians have been deceived, and believe in the natural immortality of the human soul, a false, pagan doctrine that comes from the Roman Catholic Church, and not the Bible.

John 11:11-14
11 After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”
12 His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” 13 Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.
14 So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead,"

John 11:24
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
 Quoting: Photina

In my fathers house are many mansions, if it were not so i would have told you so. i go to prepare a place for you and if i go to prepare a place for you i'll come again and receive you unto myself that where i am there ye may be also.

"Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will." 2 Timothy 2:23-26

Hell is death itself.

The lake of fire is the final judgement of the wicked resulting in the second and final death in which death/hell itself is destroyed.

Luke 23:39-43 New International Version (NIV)
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”

40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.[a]”

43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

This is the only instance we have of our Lord's using this well-known word. In the ordinary language used by the Jews, of the unseen world, it signifies the" Garden of Eden," or "Abraham's bosom;" it represented the locality where the souls of the righteous would find a home, after death separated soul and body. The New Testament writers, Luke and Paul and John, use it (Acts 2:31; 1 Corinthians 15:5; 2 Corinthians 12:4; Revelation 2:7). To Luke and Paul, probably, this was a memory of the word spoken on the cross, which they alone record in their Gospel. It may have been told Luke by the Mother of sorrows herself. John, who uses it in his Revelation, doubtless heard it himself as he stood at the foot of the cross. Paradeisos is derived from the Persian word pardes, which signifies a park or garden.

In crucis ligno dederis latroni
Sedulus oro." This striking verse is engraved on the tomb of the great Copernicus, and alludes to this prayer and its answer. Paradise.

The Torah doesn't teach that there is an afterlife or that we are naturally immortal.

The Jews still do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as the one true Savior either.
 Quoting: redhed6971

Jesus WAS a Torah following Hebrew.

Jesus also referred to death as a sleep and taught the resurrection.

He didn't teach the pagan myth that we are immortal spirits trapped in a body, continue living in spirit form after death and knowing more than the living.

The Torah teaches that the dead "know nothing".

I wrote a Christian fiction book revolving around eschatology. I studied the issue in depth for years while writing the book.

I agree with you 100% OP. Furthermore, there is no place called "Hell" where condemned people go to await the judgment. They will be resurrected at the last day and cast into the Lake of Fire and be destroyed from the presence of the Lord forever (no eternal torment.)

I will not respond to questions about my statements. It wears out my soul to argue about these issues. For some reason, it's heretical to even suggest such a thing in our modern church culture.

Everyone needs a season of rest.. times that try a man. One of the most helpful lessons I ever learned was that no matter how much more I put into this, God still wins in the end and my contribution in the scheme of things while not perhaps monumental are yet still incomprehensible and incomparable for the levels of awesome that is to come...doesnt mean it all doesnt matter it just means its ok to take a breath and bask in the trust...

Well, Jesus must have been lying to the thief because Jesus did not ascend to Heaven until many weeks later.

Or that translation is wrong.

Choose one.

Ever hear of the Bosom of Abraham? That is where both Christ and the thief went after death.
There's a man in a white house with blood on his mouth!
If there's Knaves in the North, there are braves in the South.
We are three thousand horses, and not one afraid;
We are three thousand sabres and not a dull blade.
