An extremely dangerous and fast moving wildfire is threatening the city of Redding, California. Fire officials are preparing to evacuate the entire city.

YES, please pin this is a very bad situation (I’m in the area but not in the way of the fire). Major power outages. Fire containment and structure protection have been DROPPED all personnel focusing on evacuating people. Major traffic jams.

The local station has gone to wall-to-wall coverage; I’ve never seen that happen here. Local tv newss feed:

This is reminding me so much of the Napa and Santa Rosa fires last year, wind is not as bad (although situation is bad enough).

Fire is big enough that it is making its own wind—legitimate firestorm

I I lived south of Redding in national forest. Then lived in Willits. How does that area fair? Thanks you. Stay safe.

So far the fire is north and east of Redding—heading towards Lake Shasta; south Redding is OK right now. Just in case though they are starting preps in case they have to evacuate Mercy Hospital (I’ve been a patient there; I hope the fire doesn’t get that far)

Those shots are actually from the sky cam on Mercy Hospital! Just got an alert on my phone that the hospital is prepping to move intensive care patients. OMG we are getting a Civil Authorities alert; those always put me on edge.

I am NOT in the area of the fire; I am south of it. I have, however, had to evacuate my home for fires in the past and they completely freak me out.

how far south? Mercy Hospital is prepping ICU patients in case of mandatory evac.

The smoke was awful all day today (still is) very very red sky and sunset this evening and the moon is red right now and I am miles away.

You can literally see it moving closer and closer

The houses the feed is showing burning right Are right in Redding near the river—less than 2 miles from the iconic Sundial Bridge.

Mercy Hospital in preps to evacuate.
