Re: How is everyone’s garden doing this year?
Our first year trying Olla’s for watering plants and they work great we have to keep an eye on our summer squash or surprisingly fast, they can grow to a huge size.

By next week, we will be harvesting grapes from our vines, our potatoes are almost ready to harvest, and we have a great deal of potatoes ready for harvest this weekend.

We had a great crop of strawberries and still harvesting asparagus from our garden and have a nice supply of peppers, eggplant and tomatoes.

Wafting for our Sugar Baby watermelon to mature along with my okra thus will be canning and dehydrating our produce soon.

Our sugar snap peas have ended up being eaten while we pick them thus will need to plant more next year so some will end up on our table.

Just replanted more greens to be harvested in the fall along with the fennel I just planted, as fall approaches will grow greens in my greenhouse.

Low Maintenance Gardening! So Many Advantages to Watering with Olla Irrigation Pots.

Never in my 30 years have I seen such a bad year. Weather conditions are not right for planting. I'm in Michigan. Farm field look horrible. Never seen them like this before. Make me worry about our future.

You know you are really into gardening when you simply squish bugs with your fingers especially when you are not wearing garden gloves.

We have wolf spiders in our garden one bit me this year above the wrist and it swelled up for about three weeks. Wolf spiders are good for the garden the females carry their egg sacks the carry their young on their backs and look like giant hairy spiders and are easily seem. The males are smaller and easier to miss while working it was a male that bit me.

I don't have one, but my best friend has a 1 acre garden. Half of which is watermelon. It's doing great. His corn is 6' tall, the bell peppers are being harvested as are the various tomatoes as they become ripe. Nothing like vine-ripened tomatoes from glaciated rich black Illinois soil!

Last year was our bad year spring started out hot but by summer it was cool and wet very little grew. It seemed after transplanting from the greenhouse to the garden most vegetables could not acclimate to the weather.

Once our house is built and we move to Wyoming we will have what is called an underground greenhouse, focus on winter squash, and beans anything long lasting and easily preserved.

Sadly, this will be the plight of all sheeple that make it to a plot of land with no experience when SHTF. You can learn/research most everything on video tubes. And commit this to memory: Sevin liquid or dust. I have great results with Sevin concentrated liquid. Bifen IT (keep back from the garden) kills most everything else, and is also GREAT for mosquitos.

It's doing alright but everything was late. We had to rebuild the garden spot, and now it's going to be fantastic!

Getting tons of summer squash and toms are setting as are beans and potatoes. But all of my garlic and my onions damped off. Plan on having a better fall garden.

Plenty of blackberries, and the Jerusalem artichokes are rocking it like they do.

Trying out some "global buckets" hoping they work out for greenhouse plants and extending the season. Check out this video on how to make these, and especially the guy's pepper plant at the end. Wow! Video is a little over 6 minutes long:

For people with poor soil or little space, this really is cool.

Excellent vid fine. Looks pretty easy and cheap. Live in an apartment so this would work great I think. Also, in the vid, the guy only planted 1 plant per tub?

Cucumbers from two plants are making it impossible to keep up. Tomatoes are looking really good too.

Southeast Wisconsin area, not too hot yet this summer but regular rain since April. Averaging an inch a week since then. If you can't grow veggies here this summer? You can't grow anything.

Raspberries out the ying yang as well. No fertilizer or chemicals of any kind.

I don’t have a garden because I live in a 580,000 citizen city here in Kansas. The grass is dormit from the lack of rain. Pattern change is finally happening which should clobber the Midwest most of the late summer/fall/winter with precip before the heaviest axis shifts east under this El Niño flow. Most of Kansas is getting a healthy 3-5 inches of rain this week

Spring / Summer planting season starts early for us in Southeast Louisiana. We had all plants in the groud by the first week of March.

We planted squash, tomatoes, bellpeppers, banana peppers, eggplants, pumpkin (my GLP pumpkin contest entry from last year accidentally was fruitful and multiplied...LOL), green onions, string beans, okra and parsley.

Everything did great and we are still picking tomatoes, okra and peppers. However, the eggplants decided to be the dud plant of the year. It seems like something stunted their growth.

I consider the world our garden. There were no wild mmushrooms this spring and the few lady bug that are left are a dull orange color. There's gonna be famine.

We need farms.

ery interesting about the ladybugs. Please expound on the color/famine? I never heard this before. Here in Ohio there were very few Morels/mushrooms either, which was very strange.

Found that straw works best as you might be using diseased or seed filled grass in your garden also be careful of what trees you use leaves from as mulch. We have many oak trees, the leaves are acidic which throws your soils ph, and many vegetables will not thrive.

Better than last year. Cilantro bolted way too early before summer even started. Tomatoes are healthier, suffered with wilt past two years but not this year. Japanese beetles are heavier than last few years. Haven't had to water much, which is really nice!!

It must have gotten very dry in your area as our asparagus are doing great and have done so for a few years now.

Wonderful. We planted tons of ever bearing organic strawberries and will be putting up 3 greenhouses next year. Blueberries and even ordered true blue huckleberries and will be growing those, cloning them and even selling the plants in a few years.

Squash, tomatoes, butternut squash, dills, cukes, herbs, onions, lots of potatoes. Our neighbor swears they are growing twice as fast as normal and we're giving them steroids.

We're going to turn this into a small business for one of my son's.

We even got flowers in this year and foxgloves. And want to put in dyers flowers as well. Indigo , madder, and various medicinal plants, wormwood for example. And we planted 2 cherry trees, will be finding morepart apricot for next year.

We're doing it all on 1/3 acre plus. Will probably look to lease land in a couple years as well.

Deers seem to love blueberry chutes so we have been trying different methods of dissuading the deer from nibbling.

My tomatoes are HUGE

All that rain early on caused me to get them outside a bit later than usual, but they have totally taken off. Well over 4 feet tall at this point, and have already broken the stakes I had. I had to bring bigger heavier duty ones home from work today

My peppers started off a bit slow. Too much rain I think. But it's slowed down now and they have really shot up. I have 20 or so hot pepper plants, and almost every one of them already has peppers 3 or more inches long on them already.

I started them inside back in January.

My watermelons are growing slow. I didn't get them in until late, too much rain.

And the beans are going nuts. We have so many beans we don't know what to do with them all.

Cabbage this year didn't grow well. We will have to buy cabbage to make sauerkraut, the first time in a few years.

The apple trees are full though, as long as we can keep up with shooting the squirrels and chipmunks that constantly cut them off and eat half of them then let them lay.

Also had a great year for black raspberries and blackberries.

Re: How is everyone’s garden doing this year?
The mangos, avocados and papayas that I planted in early spring just bought the farm, they couldn't take the heat this week.I think that the irrigation canal having been plugged was a bigger factor in that.

Despite the heat all the citrus, guavas, figs and peach trees seem to be fine; the tomatoes, jalapeños, onions, potatoes, and beans are wilted. I'm watering them with the hose 'till the irrigation pipe gets fixed.

Every time someone plants a tree too close to the pipe the roots plug it up and fuck up the flow for everybody downpipe, happens every year, and it's always a pain in the ass to convince the idjit responsible that their nice healthy tree has to go and to pitch in for the repairs. Without irrigation it's difficult to keep things growing in the PHX heat.
