CRISPR DNA-editing may result in serious genetic damage – study

Researchers have raised alarm over the king of genome-editing tools, CRISPR, after major DNA deletions were detected during the gene-editing process, suggesting the risk of genetic damage is much greater than previously thought.

CRISPR/Cas9 is one of the newest genome-editing tools and is considered very powerful. It can alter sections of DNA in cells by cutting at specific points and introducing changes at that location.

While the tool is already extensively used in scientific research, it is also poised to become the gene editor of choice in clinical contexts with potential for treating diseases such as HIV, cancer or sickle cell disease.

However, this new study, carried out at the Wellcome Sanger Institute in the UK, suggests the technique is not as safe as previously thought and could lead to dangerous changes in some cells and, potentially, even cause cancer.

Would not surprise me if they knew this already but carried on anyway to see what happened.

Re: CRISPR DNA-editing may result in serious genetic damage – study
Well considering some of the most popular old school methods was to bombard thousands of cell nucleus with gold atoms that had foreign DNA attached to them, devastating the entire genome with random mutation and then look for the 1 in a million cell that actually took on the edited DNA from the gold atom along with the other damage it did.. CRISPER does not seem that bad.

CRISPER is still a massive evolution in the way we edit DNA. Its massively cheaper as well. What do you expect tho, if you took say the source code of windows 10 and at random cut some lines out because you didn't like the look of them..> do you actually think you would compile the code and carry on with no unintended consequences???

Until we understand our genome like Bill Gates understood the source code of windows and the language it was written in, then we will not be able to author it like true masters.

Now if you had said Linux, because I actually can view their source code.

This guy predicted it on GLP and seems to know what's going on.

Thread: GMO/CRISPR is a lie
