Scotus in NEVER elected only ever appointed. besides most people die before or around 85 anyway. chances are likely that RBG will either die in her sleep or a medical condition will emerge that requires her hospitalization. the first is far more likely.

Ultimate Irony! She was too selfish to retire while O was the POTUS and now she cannot retire because Trump will replace her with a functioning brain. The only way President Trump gets to replace her is if she croaks in office. She isn't writing any legal decisions. I would about guarantee that. Supreme Court justices should serve 18-year terms staggered by two years. That way each time you vote you know you're voting for two justices instead of some random number depending on who dies or decides to retire - and assuming they're appointed at a decent age they don't go senile while they're on the bench.

Its not so much the age, its the fact that they stay around forever even after they are senile. Trump is 72 and still very sharp. Pelosi and Waters, no. And they do not have term limits like Trump does.
