Technical Question about Modern Human "Natural Selection"
I. Question
II. Background Commentary

I. Human Population Biology is a technical field with well-known peer-reviewed professors.
However, is there a comparable technical field where professors weigh in on their career speciality in "Modern Human Evolution" ?

II. A science of "Modern Human Evolution" must be able to accurately predict natural forces in _current human evolution. They must sort out societal evolutionary variables including the lies told by humans to advance their own interests.

Today I attended a lecture given in person by Curator of the Paleontology Exhibit in the Museum of the Rockies, Dr. Jack Horner. It was a very, very good lecture for its clarity, stimulating topic and surprising new understandings.

The talk was introduced by a biologist who described Dr. Horner's unorthodox route to his career, concluding,"Genius... finds a way!" As if to endorse the idea of "pulling one's self up by one's bootstraps."

Okay, I know the biologist who introduced Dr. Horner.
He is a great guy and a very good biologist, in my humble opinion. His field is Gila monsters -- not people. So, are some Gila monsters GENIUSes? Is the study of Gila monsters a way for the biologist to know that "Genius finds a way" ?

For me, the statement underlined the lack of a MODERN HUMAN evolutionary science -- and thus all statements of this kind -- ALL OF THEM -- are scientifically unsupported.

We now return you to your superior thoughts. hf

Re: Technical Question about Modern Human "Natural Selection"
dude if you cant figure out that the smarter fitter animal will out provide a dumber weaker animal, attracting more sexual partners leading to more sexual success leading to more offspring, meaning that this individual has a larger influence on the species than other lesser males.

like 200 years from now more humans will favor myself than you, simply because my offspring will out do yours and get more sex....(cause they will be smarter and fitter)

Any answer would like to give would be academic and equally boring. Although loved the OP.

If natural selection is in play, then what we have today in terms of people is what we were meant to have.

Re: Technical Question about Modern Human "Natural Selection"
Thanks!
The topic flows under all our conversations about policy,
yet is not well developed in science. This explains why everyone else's opinions are usually rubbish -- because, while subjective points of view have validity, no highly developed objective system has yet been circulating in science.

This is so far off course that it's not even wrong.
More like "mis-stated."

Re: Technical Question about Modern Human "Natural Selection"
From my limited understanding, evolution is a slow process. Thus to study the actual process of evolution implies looking at the fossil record over millions of years.

If I understand you correctly, by "modern human evolution" you mean what is actually happening to the human species right now. To do this, we would need to make observations of the human form and genome both now and millions of years from now. That does not seem practical.

The only thing we can do is make guesses about the evolutionary pressures facing humans, and extrapolate. However, with no way to test our extrapolations (hypotheses), this effort would fall short of science, in any strict sense.

I agree about 98 percent with this.

I observe that what you said shows most statements people make about human evolution are without a scientific
basis (and people make a LOT of them).

The other two percent is for folks that work hard enough, are smart enough, and honest enough, and doggone it, people like them. Thanks for the funny film too! ! ! hf
