Oh hell yes!!!

Sucks balls at first but gets better every day. Get through the first week and then see how you feel about it.

Re: I'm trying this sober thing out
Just from my own experience,
If you're going to relapse and you know you are going to relapse, instead of going back to what you were doing(ie: booze, hard drugs) just buy a bag of weed instead and smoke the pot. That should help you not to go back full bore into the downward spiral of hard drugs and will help you through the boredom.
But only do this as a last resort like if the boredom is too much and you feel yourself itching and slipping.
It worked for me.
I was even able to quit smoking cigs by substituting with pot.
The herb can work miracles to help kick addictions.

Re: I'm trying this sober thing out
thanks everyone.

I got someone holding onto my money this time so I don't fuck it up AGAIN!

the hangover, comedowns and regret have only been getting worse.

figured I should try something new, plus I realize I'm a fucking idiot when I'm fucked up, plus I close myself off from everyone in my day to day life.

today will be the first day going without smokes.

stopped detoxing from opiates since monday and smoked a bowl of res to stop the restless legs that night but it only made things so much worse.

restless legs and restless mind....

been loving the dreams I'm having though!

that's a plus, feels like I haven't dreamed in years.

it hasn't been long I know but I'm fucking determined to get this shit straightened out.

haven't smoked weed besides that res for a good month or two and I had one last hoorah with the opies and after staying away from the blow for a good month and a half I fucked up and did a bunch going out one night since it was offered and and the WORST anxiety of my life.

never again.

Re: I'm trying this sober thing out
I'm in Florida. I had a problem, couldn't stay sober. Caused me a lot of problems.

When the day came and I could ask myself if I would do ANYTHING to change, and the answer was yes - it set the ball moving in the right direction.

I checked myself into a residential 6 month rehab program. Worked the 12 steps. Graduated from rehab, joined the program they had for graduates. Got a job and lived in their half way house, rent was $350 per month. Continued going to 12 step meetings.

My sobriety date is July 8th 2012.

Today I am a homeowner and have a career. I have a respectable retirement account. I have a wonderful girlfriend. My relationship with my family is better than it ever was. But most importantly, I am happy and I sleep well at night. I do not live with regrets and I do not crave or chase intoxication. I have my life back. The same peace and comfort I knew as a child before the days of partying began.

If that sounds like something you want - I'll ask you.. Are you willing to do ANYTHING to change your life?

It's difficult. I have several bouts of failed sobriety behind me. I'm not a drunk per se, but love having a few beers every day and having at least one good drunk during the weekend.

I've made it a week and a half, I'm getting stronger. The older I get the more aware I am of it dragging me down health and energy-wise.
