Revelation 13:16 King James Version (KJV)
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads....


All other newer versions state on


In other words, it was changed to not worry people about:

With all the different copying and translating that the Bible has undergone, it is very difficult to get a true understanding of what was truly written. Checking out the different versions and comparing them is very helpful, especially as in this case, where the meaning appears to be "toned down", which gives the KJV (IMHO) the premier position for what is true.

Another prime example of toning down to hide meaning can be found in Matthew 24:10...

And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another, which is changed to ...

At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other

The KJV version strongly alludes to the current PC sentiment in America where people get offended easily and turn on one another, while the NIV version does not. Deception is the primary tool of who?
