I am sure I'm going to be flamed but, serious insight is requested

I believe I saw an alien 22 years ago. I was born/raised in a pretty rural area in New Jersey (rural for that time, at least). Although my friends and I explored a lot of the area in which we lived, we never really ventured very far outside the town or surrounding towns. So, about 27 years ago, when I was 21 or so, my boyfriend and I began exploring a wider area, typically towns 15 or 20 miles away from where we lived. In one town, we found several back roads that were pretty rough. On one weekend, we drove further down one of these roads, passed a few people who were out in their yards, all of whom ran into their houses as we drove past, which I really didn't think too much of at the time. There were probably 3 or so, not a big deal. So, when we reached the end of the road, we decided to turn around and head back home as we didn't know the area, didn't want to get lost and didn't have a map or anything like that. So, we turned, drove past the same houses, all yards now empty, and as we were probably 2/3 of the way to the main road, I saw a small car heading towards us in the opposite lane, of course, and this was the only car we had seen driving on that road. I looked at the driver, my boyfriend was staring straight ahead, and I saw what I firmly believe was a gray. It was clear, defined and as it was a pretty cloudy day, the sun was not shinning in my eyes or on the windshield of either the car. I was wide awake, not drunk or high and I've never hallucinated in my life. So, thoughts? I would like to mention I do have aphantasia.
