Anonymous Coward User ID: 52154903 United States 01/25/2018 10:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | St John is by far the best, and the locals are better there than elsewhere. Cruz Bay is beautiful ... and the rest of St. John is even more beautiful. As said before EVERYBODY KNOW EVERYBODY ... so watch what you say or do until people get to know you. If you are an asshole everybody will know within a couple of weeks and treat you accordingly since you are an outsider and White. Are you a church goer? Might want to become one on St. John!! Good way to get to know the BEST and most connected Blacks on that Island. Those types are good souls. OH ... and they DRESS UP FOR CHURCH. Suits /ties /dress shoes and the women wear Full dresses, it's all like it was in the 1950's back in the states ... DO IT YOURSELF IF YOU GO TO CHURCH!! Also if you go you have to go EVERY WEEK plus do some of the other church stuff so you can become part of the community. Property crime ... rampant on St. Thomas, not nearly as bad on St. John, and most of what happens there is done by people who come over from St. Thomas. Approach it and the people with the attitude that YOU want to fit in and do something for the Island People. If you do that, and can adjust to "Island Time", you will probably do just fine. Just be aware that THEY don't have a lot of money so expect to hire a number of locals, whether you want to or not if you want to avoid problems, and that they are going to be SLOW in doing their job (Island Time mindset - they aren't doing it to fuck you, they just work to a different beat). Friends built a house on St. John and it drove them batty at times even though they knew what to expect. Good Luck!! |

It's not what you make, but what you spend that matters. You dug up a year old thread? Anyways it wasn’t about the money in the end. It was a life changing experience, moved to Puerto Rico after a couple months and fell in love with the people and the island. Did ten weeks of volunteer work cleaning up after the hurricane and took care of a wounded horse on a rescue farm Usvi had a really dark energy, I hope that changes someday |

My sister married a Guy down there and had a son. She is back in the states now. USVI is about as dangerous and anti Caucasian as it gets, short of the Congo. Btw my nephew is now without a father from the above mentioned. Check out the article: [link to vifreepress.com] Capitanwoodelf is Really a Texan. |
